The plugs recommended in the owner's manual are fine unless you install a supercharger, turbo, etc.

To all Katana S/C users...regarding spark plugs.

You will probably see a lot of unusual engine characteristics on the early '05s. Erratic idle like you have experienced, random stalling, idle RPM going down until the engine just barely runs (this is usually during warm-up). Later '05s may be better, I don't know, I have an '04 build, as well.

I suppose it depends upon the car. I have #369 of the original US cars (built in 04), and it remains bullet-proof at idle, as well as through the rpm range, and with no CELs or any other problems.

Others will know better than I do, but I think I recall Lotus doing an ECU reflash at the 1,000 mile service on my '05. Has yours had that??

Good point, Tracy.

I did have a reflash done as part of normal maintenance service at a Lotus dealership during the warranty period. However, I wasn't having any problem of the type discussed here before that.

I also had a reflash around mid-2005. It didn't change anything for better or worse, that I could tell.

I have an early '05 (number 124) and it too has bee bullet-proof with no problems at all.

I too had the reflash, but again, I had no problems prior to the reflash, and couldn't tell any difference after the reflash.

re early cars and rough idle ... just a data point:
I've got #0038 (built may 04) and at first it idled weird. Then after a few thousand miles that went away and it has been solid since. Never a code and never a problem after 45,000 miles.
