Hope replacing the battery solves the problem. An old battery has to be suspect. Let me know if I can be of further help

To the OP, you can borrow a code reader from your local auto parts store for free. Not sure what you have by you but I know O'rielly's, Shucks, and Autozone all do this. It beats buying the thing. It will only tell you the code, it will not tell you everything you need to know about it. You can post your codes up on this site and someone will know what it is and tell you about it.

To the previous poster,

what car do you have? What do you mean "to the front?" I'm guess you have an Exige and I looking at how to get to the front posts?

If you have a volt reader (if you don't get one, it is a useful tool), check the voltage. If the battery is less than 12V, then you probably have a dead cell or two. You can also pull the battery and take it in to your FLAPs to have them check it. They'll tell you if it is dead or not.

If your battery is not dead, ie it reads 12 V. Then you can jump start the car and let it run to charge the battery.

To get to the front on an Exige, you need the smallest allen wrench in the Lotus Tool kit. At the front of the car on the drivers (left) side of the car, loosen the three retaining screws that hold the front access panel. The access panel is the tear drop shaped piece of fiberglass just below the windshield. it has a mirror image twin on the other side.

Under this acces panel you will see the posts you are looking for that match the battery terminals in the back. This is really intended for use in the event that you cannot access the trunk release lever in the cabin, because the cockpit is locked and inaccessable. i.e. locked the only keys in the car and happened to have the tool you need handy.

To the original poster, this sounds pretty much identical to my issue (seet this post):

Car just dies. Starts up much later (sometimes)

And my battery is pretty much dead too. After the tow, my car did start but then in a week or so it was dead battery. I figured that was because I had drained it quite a bit trying to start the car when stuck for an hour or so before the tow and never really run it after that. Maybe yes, maybe no. I did buy a charger and after a full day it will start but I do think I need a new battery (the "eye" is still black, not green). Will try after 2-3 days and if dead, that's a sure sign I guess.

I have not had a chance to get out and drive to see if I still have the issue, and probally will not until I get a new battery. If that is not it, well, that just sucks having a car that needs to be flatbedded far away (with HRM now closed) to be fixed as I will be afraid to go any distance driving for fear of cutting out on the highway. Even worse if I get it there and the issue will not repeat (last time was driven for a little bit before dead).

Anyway, I would love to hear how things turn out for you and if you feel the issue is similar after reading my thread.

Thanks,
Chris

Alllllllllllright

So.. to all the people who told me to put gas in the car... I'm sorry I didn't.

Car was completely out of gas, while the gauge read 1/3rd.

So she runs, haha.. man do I feel dumb.

Sorry I didn't update this sooner.
