Loud Clunk From Rear While on The Track

It happened twice and basically sounded like the engine was separating from the car. Very loud while I was in a straight. The instructor in the car at the time said it sounded like the chasis was coming apart. I had never heard the noise before and I haven't heard it since. Any idea what it might be? Sorry, I don't recall if I was accelerating or slowing down when it happened.

Check motor mounts, exhaust system, toe link inner joints, a-arm bushings, etc... Don't be unsafe!

Or under the seat. You'd be surprised how loud unreturned dvds from the video store can clunk when under the passenger seat. Probably a good thing considering I'd still be paying for it!

The battery let go?

Heck, one time I had a battery explode on me. It was very impressive - very large bang. Acid everywhere and lots of white smoke (no flames). I thought I had blown my engine at first. I was so happy it wasn't the engine that I broke out laughing when I realized what it was.

My car is in the shop for a broken transmission mount as well as the motor mounts. If the engine feels like its moving when you engage the transmission get it checked out now. The consequences is that that you put stress at all points causing several other failures. In addition the movement of the engine also caused the cat to shear off at the weld.

No loose items in the car and I did check the battery. I will take a look at all the mounts.

Jplotus, do you have any idea what caused the damage to your car? Have you had it to the track or in an autoX?
