[QUOTE=pete k]Don, is there a reason you won't share the "fix" with us? Are you sworn to secrecy? [/Q

There are words and there are actions, if Rob's car stays quiet for 1k miles
I will be more than happy to share my findings. Don.

Don, you've successfully done this silencing mod on other customer's car's, with successs, haven't you? I believe I communicated with a very happy customer of yours (Ben S.) who said you completely eliminated the harsh neutral-throttle sound. He was very pleased that this "rattle" was gone (although he recently damaged his car). He spoke very highly of you, and if I was anywhere near the west coast, I would be in your shop for sure. I am desparate to get rid of this noise myself. Please think about sharing the fix with us. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the shift gear linkage, is that right? How about a hint at least? Thanks.

As I indicated in my earlier mail..L.C.U.A are trying and have been supportive. However, the source of the problem has not yet been fully remedied and should your mods prove to work long term it could bring this frustrating experience to a close for many other Elise owners.I look forward to your 1000 mile update. Thanks for taking the time to respond.

It seems he is and I don't disagree,( it would be worth the drive) however I am on the other coast. As much as I would enjoy touring the country in the Elise..just do not have the time. I trust Don will share his findings once the fixes have stood some test of time..hopefully not too long ? There are quite a few owners waiting with baited breath...

Still quiet after 300 miles.

The only problem with the new gearstick is that the reverse gear collar keeps sticking in its up – i.e. reverse - position, which is very easy not to notice. Can be very embarrassing pulling away from a stop light – having shifted back into reverse by mistake.

I guess it’ll loosen up.

A tad harsh I fear.

And, may I rush to Don's defence and say:

I think that these cars may have more than one rattle and Don's magic fix for one will not fix every rattle.

This may be one reason that he is not sharing this fix...

BTW Don is the man

Sorry I asked Don :-) Would you let us know when a bulletin has been released?

I suspect that Don has to provide this info through official channels as it is part of his job. Also, Don wasn't the one who originally posted about the supposed fix, he was just correcting one of his customer's posts about the new gearshift being the fix.

Don did say [earlier in thread] that he would share the mods if it proved to be a real fix...lasting about 1000 miles. My dealer and LC have been working on this for a few months on and off..
I hope Rob Ward is driving night and day...300 miles and all clear as of yesterday....Keep us informed.

That's perfectly understandable, but it would have been nice if he just said that in the first place instead of having us all begging for the fix. Why should we need a "crystal ball" to know his true motives? Don is held in very high regard by a lot of Elise owners, and I wish he could be more forthcoming with his knowledge of repair issues, but if if for some reason Lotus doesn't allow him to discuss these things with us until they're confirmed, I guess we'll all just have to wait. Waiting is something that all Elise owners should be used to.

Don posts that he knows how to fix it.

Hey, I got an idea. Why don't you post your lively hood, your bread winning asset or a formula you have yet to determine is sound. Wait, that is if you possess any of this. Sound harsh? I tried to equal your tone but feel that I have failed in my attempt. What a negative post you made. Tsk tsk.

It is you sir who doesn't have squat. Don is a gentleman and a provider of unmatched service. I now consider myself fortunate to be in his area. I will never whine about my 20 minute drive to his shop in Newport Beach.

The easiest fix for the rattle is to keep the RPM's above 6200

Only Rob would know at this point, but after a lifetime as a race car fabricator,Engine blue printer, Ferrari mechanic, and forensic consultant I
may go out as a rattle master ( just kidding, a do want to help) I'll
check with Rob this week. All the best, Don

Yeah, but the harsh neutral-throttle rattle is by far the worst, at least on my car. I don't mind rattles, but this noise drives me nuts. I wouldn't even describe it as a rattle, it's more like a cross between a rattle and a raspy buzzing noise. It really catches my attention, and it's even audible at high RPM over the QS exhaust and ITG intake.
