Oil Change
Unless you have a ramp, the most difficult part of the oil change is lining the service pan back up and buttoning it up. I had to get someone else to steady the service pan before I was able to button it up. Unless you can get completely underneath the car, it is not easy.
An oil change in the Elise is a pain in the ass. Much worse than a Boxster. Unbolting and bolting the pan back up takes longer than the oil change itself. It can be done, but it's not fun. |

80 bucks with some valvolene 10W30 and a Fram filter from K Mart...... I really don't think you can do it yourself for that much with some good oil & filter

I'm using Havoline Synthetic 5W40 (Lotus Recommended) and K&N filter and I'm paying ~$50 for the DIY job.

oil change
Since this is a toyota engine can you get the filters from a toyota dealer? Find out from them what to use or can you go to the toyota dealer. I know it may be a bit embarassing but should work, right?

If you like oysters just snort real good, you may find one.
A little cilantro, lime, maybe a small dash of Tabasco, yum! I’m sorry but it really does looks like big snot on a shell. As for the oil change let us know where you are going to be and I’m sure some one here can help or point out a safe shop. Or just do the oil change early, no harm in that. Kevin |

Total cost is about $50-60. $80 for a change with quality stuff is real cheap. |

Do it yourself!
I changed my oil myself last weekend with the help of fellow Elise-talk member AZReason (thanks again!!!). It cost a little over $45.00 for 5 quarts of Castro Syntec 5w-40 synthetic oil and the Mobile 1 M1-103 High Efficiency and High Capacity oil filter (both from Autozone). Time-wise and the most effort exerted was in removing and afterward re-attaching the metallic plate underneath... about 13 bolts x2. The oil filter is small and needs a small oil filter wrench if tightened too much. You'll need a drain pan that can hold in excess of 5 quarts, and a container to pour your used oil; like an old 5 quart Oil container.
As others have stated, its good to get in there and learn how to do these basic maintenance procedures on your own. You'll not only save money, but you can ensure that the job is being done carefully and correctly. In addition, you'll learn more about your car as well, which is priceless!!! ![]() ![]()

DIY is Cheaper
I changed mine this weekend with a special deal on oil and filter from Auto Zone.
Got 5 quarts of Mobil 1 5W-40 and a Mobil 1 M1-209 Oil Filter for $29.88. ![]() Can't beat that! Actually the more practice you get with the lower panel, the easier and faster it is to take off. Oil change now takes me about 35-40 minutes. Regards, Wayne
