Question The perfect Elise / Exige tool set

Has anyone assembled a perfect one to carry around in their boot?

I have not been tooling around with my Elise too much yet, but lately fate had been forcing me to learn to be on top of some adjustments, and I find the stock tool set lacking. Is anyone willing to share their list of "essential tools" I should go out and buy?

Sorry if this info already exists, I could not find it.
Thanx in advance,
Luke

tools

Interesting.

Hockey puck (so if you have someone else jack up the car they won't wreck it).
star lug tool Lotus
Hex #3
Hex #5
Star #20
8mm stocket
3 inch extension
7mm and 8mm box ratchet
10mm open and ratchet
Long small standard screwdriver
Short stubby Phillips
the Hex #5 is attached to a small S&K 45172 knuckel wrench
White plastic thingies in the clear bag are mechanic gloves.
Black box is a Pelican 1060
The peice of wood is a self made passenger seat coin removal tool.
Rest should be self explanatory.
WINE OPENER (this is all metal and for emergency purposes only).

All of those tools go in the Pelican and the Pelican with the big stuff go in a canvas mechanics bag I got at the Army Surplus store.

Other than that there have been no problems with the car so, my tools I carry in my car are just a guess.

have fun

Nick

Nick's kit is perfect. In addition to the roll that comes with the Elise, I cary a tire repair kit and one of these from Spyderco.

Cell phone and AAA card. Extra stuff flies around a lot unless it is very well secured.

Add to that a 17mm deep socket for the tire lug & lock key. I like the flexible 1/4" drive and stubby 1/4" drive ratchet. For track days I take the boat kit along, that fits nicely on the passenger floor.

I just visited Sector 111 and they did not mention anything about it - recommended metric tools at a hardware store.

maybe it was not selling too well. I also know, the hardware for the '05 and the '06 are slightly different.

Other non-tools that are nice to have on trackdays

Loctite -For those many, many little bolts on the Elise that vibrate loose (belly pan bolts, the inimitable rear toe link, camber adjustment bolts. I love that stuff!

a tube of hand cleaner

grease rag(s)

I like to carry a small tarp to cover the interior from baking sun and sometimes tie it up to make shade for myself - bring twine for that

a camp chair, real small cooler with water and food and ???

portable air pump that plugs into lighter

a small jack (make sure it fits under your car)

By the way, that 17mm lug socket wont go very far without a 1/2" drive longer ratchet since those bolts have a habit of freezing. So I say ditch the 3/8 ratchet and bring 1/2-3/8 adapter and a 1/2" ratchet. I put WD40 on the bolt thread (only) to keep that from recurring.

There's a lot more stuff that can make a track day or canyon days (park and run) funner and less potentially tragic, but that tiny boot just don't hold that much

Cool! Now that Sector 111 doesn't sell them we can rip off their great idea. What's in it...

Home Depot was piss poor with a lot of this stuff. Maybe an automotive store will do better... I don't wanna have to buy a whole set of wrenches for just one. I know there are places that sell them individually.

... almost done. Need the rachets, but I got almost everything else. Good call. One question, what's the wine opener for again? is it Victory Lane?

thanx again for posting, this is gold.

Check out your local Goodwill stores and pawn shops. Whenever I need a specific socket/wrench size I can usually find one at a pawn shop for like 50 cents. When I was still heavy into Volkswagens I would stop by the pawn shop once a month to grab as many 10mm & 13mm sockets as I could.

Don't forget about a long thin phillips head screw driver for the screws in the doors that come loose and block the window from going all the way up. And a small flash light to see the screws.

I have some of this guy's kits. Designed for motorcycles, but definitely very handy. I have one of the "cruzmetix" kits in my car.

... just got the hockey puck. It was a bitch to find!! The local Wal-Mart in the middle of the desert does not carry it. Go figure...

Thanx for all the tips. I just paid like $15 for a new 10mm socket / open... damn!

I say Sector 111 puts this set together, made exclusively out of CF and titanium. Charge $895 for it. You'll make millions!
