Thanks. It's REALLY oil. I'm thinking of pulling the plastic fender liner this morning to see if I can tell where exactly it's coming from - though from the looks of the inside and lower fender, it's going to be tough to tell since an oil film blown is all around the area.

It's a little hard to see in the pic, but besides the puddle in the garage (in addition to the one in the driveway - from before I pushed the car inside), there's a small oil pool on the lip of the fender. I can't tell the "point of origin".
Advice to Elise Talkers...take a look at your coolers/connections to make sure they're not starting to leak too. |

I have an early production car and some of these items are concerns especially considering how many owners out there are not on Elise Talk. I am also concerned with the shifter which seems very prone to breaking. This, too, seems potentially hazardous. It seems if an issue is recognized and repaired for later build cars then it would be taken care of for the early production models.

I took my Elise in for the shifter Recall on Thurs. and mentioned that I just noticed a few drops of oil under the front driver side. Turns out my oil cooler hose is leaking at the fitting. Shouldn't be a big problem because others have reported this problem in early '05 cars.
The East & West Lotus USA tech reps were both on a plane to the UK on Thurs. so there was no one to authorize warranty repair. Also there are no oil cooler hoses any where in the US. With both Techs incommunicato, there is no one to authorize canablizing a new car for the hose. Today, after someone in Atlanta okayed up to $500 for the repair of the existing hose, but the dealer could not get the hose out of the car to take to a local repair shop. No shop in San Diego would come to them and do it on the car. Still no communications from our only 2 Lotus USA tech reps. So I am again without my car on the same 3 day weekend as last year. ![]() ![]() Last edited by CALtd : 02-17-2006 at 09:42 PM. |
