Resetting the ECU back to OEM learn

To reset the learn back to stock do this :-

1. Switch the ignition to ACC ( not the engine ) , get to step 2 within 10 seconds
2. Press the throttle to the floor This sequence must be done within 20 seconds
3. Let the throttle go
4. Press the throttle to the floor
5. Let the throttle go
6. Press the throttle to the floor
7. Let the throttle go
8. Wait upto 20 seconds
9. The check engine light should flash once

You must depress the throttle to over 70%, and then it must be let go to under 30%

Do not start the engine during that period, if the check engine flashed, the ECU is reset, if the engine is started during any part of this sequence, the learn tables will not be reset!

Hopefully thats clear enough

This should work on both the 2005 and the 2006 Cars, I doubt it'll work on pre S2s, but it might.

Charlie,

Does this just reset the ECU to it's initial parameters? Or does it also clear the ecu of its memory of %time at each rpm, standing starts, etc?

Not sure, I hope not otherwise i'm going to get nasty calls from Lotus again

My exige doesn't have the telltale anyway, I'll have a car with telltale either today or tomorrow and I'll verify it.

What does this do, help maintain gains by aftermarket headers, CAIs, blowers, etc.?

depends who you believe

it basically resets the stock learn spark advance to 1.0, amongst other things, the ECU will start relearning almost immediately, but its good enough for people doing testing and dynoing etc, at least this way you can hopefully see if you are getting differences and if they are being mapped away.

just realise that it will relearn again, its probably more useful for when you have a significant change, and it'll allow the car to relearn from base, rather than from mod, but its questionable ( to me ) about the length of time it takes to get to where it wants to be from base or modified.

Next how to use your 2006 ECU as a DVR.

While we are posting the reset procedures, for those having AC problems, here is the AC reset:

1. Switch the ignition to ACC , get to step 2 within 5 seconds
2. Press the throttle to the floor 15 times. This sequence must be done within 25 seconds
3. Let the throttle go.
4. Exit the car from the passenger side.
5. Run 10 laps around the car clockwise and re-enter from the drivers side (this must be done within 60 seconds)
6. Turn the steering wheely fully to the right and then back fully to the left.
7. Repeat 5 times.
8. Exit the car from the passenger side again.
9. Run 10 laps around the car COUNTER-clockwise
10. Switch the ignition on.
11. Start the car.
12. Turn the AC on.
13. The AC temp should now be about 10 degrees cooler than before (or at least feel like it)

I felt like an idiot doing this, but it did seem to make a difference; thanks for the info.

Funny, that sounds almost EXACTLY like the procedure to remove the seatbelt ding reminder in my wife's Expedition...

Thank you Charlie! Unfortunately, I had no luck in getting the CEL to flash on my '05. Figuring there was a slight subtlety to this technique, I tried unsuccessfully with multiple permutations of the steps. Any suggestions?

Make sure you wait 20 seconds after the final throttle transistion before starting the engine.

its probably a timing thing, 10 seconds after on, 3 pumps within 20 seconds, wait 20 seconds, MIL will flash

Charlie is it possible that this procedure requires a particular flash version?

I also didn't have any luck with the CEl flash.

It might have worked on my car, but there wasn't a flash of the CEL.
