rpm needle is at 1000 (1k) when engine is off

so... what is the deal here?

i have no idea for how long it's been like this... but i noticed it last week but wanted to confirm it and it's still doing it.

i always thought i never had idling problems or anything like that, but now that i recall, i don't think i've seen my engine idle below 1k-2k... but again i'm not sure on that either

Have you tried the reset procedure?
From the manual:

Recalibration of the speedo and tacho needle zero positions
will occur during a 3 second period following ignition switch on,
but if a needle becomes ‘stranded‘ outside of the re-calibration
range, the following procedure should be followed:
With the car stationary;
• Open driver‘s door;
• Press and hold trip reset button on steering column shroud;
• Turn on ignition.

I believe I recall reading about this in the owners manual- It needs to be calibrated with the dimmer adjustment on the steering column-

The other method is to disconnect the battery and then reconnect it. That is what I kept having to do, the reset procedure would not work.

Man, seems like there are major mph/rpm needle issues with these cars, that keep coming back if your car does it. Another "luck of the draw", knock on wood

quick question

when my rpm needle was off... does this mean that it read higher than it should have?

since it started at 1K, if the shift light comes on at 8K, it was actually 7K?

reminds me of Initial D

For those of you who experience this problem repeatedly; is there any chance you're giving the throttle a blip immediately prior to shutdown, leaving the tachometer needle ‘stranded‘ outside of the re-calibration range as it looses power?
