Shifter Squeak

Getting a metallic squeak when shifting from first to second on my '05 Elise. I've lubricated the linkage in the passenger compartment as suggested in other posts. The sound seems to be coming from the bell crank on top of the transmission. Does anyone know the best way to lubricate those pivot points? A couple of them have rubber caps about 1" in diameter on them. Do they come off for lube?

I do not know the answer to your question. I would like to humbly suggest that you press the gas pedal down further, and wait until higher revs before shifting. In this way you will not hear the squeak.

I have this same squeak. I took the center console apart and greased the shifter, and to my dismay, the squeak is still there. Squeaks most when I come out of first, and a little bit when I go into second.

I'll likely crawl under the car next time I do an oil change, and grease the hell out of everything. But right now, it's a bit embarassing since the car squeaks like an old jalopy at low speeds as I shift.. d'oh!

Just started happening to me too

I've got an early '05 with around 11k miles, and it just started doing this too, just when I go into second gear. Doesn't bug me that much, but wondering if it indicates a problem. Will probably bring it to the dealer to check it out soon, as it seems to be getting a little worse.

I've sometimes noticed a squeak in gated shifters like the Ferrari 430 and Lambo Gallardo, might just be benign when the shifter itself is hitting something inside.

I'll post if they figure it out at the dealer.
