SilverStar

Can anyone give me their experience with SilverStar? I recently purchased an Elise and it was delivered with multiple problems, including headlights not working, wrong color hard top, and a constant rattle coming from the dash.

After numerous attempts to fix (they have been great about coming to pick up the car), they've now given me a newly painted roof (sloppy detailing underneath), and the rattle persists. I found out that before delivery in August (the car had been on the lot for a year), they replaced the dash due to warpage. That is what's causing the rattle (under driver side radio speaker...plastic hitting dash). It gets worse in warmer weather.

I hear them say, a lot, that minor problems are to be expected. Some I can understand. Wrong color roof, headlights, and persistent rattle aren't included.

I also own a 2000 Isuzu VX that had its level of character and charm so I know these types of cars aren't perfect.

Any advice is appreciated. I love the car and am glad to find this forum. I'm Los Angeles based.

Todd

I bought my Elise from Silver Star. I had no problems with their sales or service.

As for the rattle, you'll probably have to get used to it. These cars rattle, buzz, ping and make all sorts of noises you wouldn't necessarily hear in other cars. It's the nature of the design.

+1. Mine actually has made quite a few pops, squeaks, creaks, bangs, cracks and thuds as well. It's all good.

the dash rattle is a lost cause, it just does it and it wont go away

as far as the dead headlights ---> get HIDs

and im glad the roof issue was resolved

-good luck

Lol at least you dont have a loose bolt that running around inside your dash every time you corner somewhat hard. Its ok ive made peace with it, adds character.

FYI my car came from silverstar, never bought the bolt issue up so my fault for not taking care of it. Next time i drop my car off ill bring it up.

K. Thanks. They've given me great service; I was just frustrated that they replaced the dash due to warpage before I purchased...and that may be cause for the rattle. I love the car.

Glad to be part of the forum. If any headshavers out there...I'm more than happy to send you some HeadBlade products.

Hey Todd - saw your car at Silver Star a couple of weeks ago when i came in for some service. My first time there and they treated me great, had me in and out in an hour, Rich is an awesome mechanic and Jason was on top of the service paperwork. I was impressed ! A lot of us have seen you cruising around the west side area. I recently saw you pulling out of a parking structure in Culver City, I was not in my Elise. You should come on some of the group drives on weekends, either MDR or Agoura Hills are common ones you can find them in the meets & events section - cheers !

this is easy to fix.

pull off the HVAC controls. There will be a broken piece of plastic and a screw rolling around in the housing. Carefully tip the housing to one side, face the housing toward the floor and catch the little screw and piece of plastic. DO NOT LET IT FALL ONTO THE FLOOR.

I took my entire dash out and the seats - cleaned it, dragged a magnet around to grab up any loose garbage, and still, that one little rattle persisted. I was trying to figure out why my HVAC wasn't working, and found this final, annoying little bastard in there.

No more for now. And the ones I have left are livable.
