Tach issue?

I noticed that on idle, the tach registers somewhere near 2000 rpms (if not above). Now I know the engine isn't turning that fast and seeing the picture in this thread:

reinforces that something isn't quite right. Is this a simple case of flashing the computer? If so, you think I should do it in the privacy of a closed garage? Raincoat or no raincoat?

There's a procedure in the manual for re-zeroing the needles.

IIRC, this procedure resets the tach and speedo needles.

* Door open / key not in.

* Press and hold trip odo button on RHS of steering column.

* Insert key, turn until lights come on.

* Wait until needles reset a few secs later.
