Washing your Lotus - Supplies?

I've read through some of the washing/detailing threads and was what you all use to regularly wash your car? (I.e. microfiber waffle weave towels, wool mitts, chemicals, etc). More importantly--where do you purchase your supplies? There aren't too many automotive supply stores in my area, so I was hoping to just purchase everything online...

Go to Costco for the microfiber towels. I use turtle wax ice and Meguiar's products.

I use Costco microfiber towels for my wheels, but don't trust them to my paint. I believe there's very different quality levels of microfiber, and am skeptical of the cheap Costco ones. I'm still in search of the perfect one, but found a great waffle weave blue microfiber towel I use to dry the car (http://www.properautocare.com/bigbludryint.html). For buffing, I use this one: http://www.properautocare.com/vipeshmibucl.html. Washing is done with a microfiber wash mit from that same place.

I bought a starter kit from DetailersParadise.com

High quality products. The microfiber towels were way better than the cheapie ones and the wool mitt is soooo soft.

While some may say their stuff is more expensive, it works exactly as advertised. For example their interior cleaner is near magic for getting stains out of carpets and making them new looking again.

Their washing brushes are great, no marring or swirling at all.

What I find to be a real PITA is cleaning the LSS wheels. I have the 'polished' ones.

What cleaner do you use? I know you have to be careful not to use something too strong. Also, what kind of cloth or brush do you use? I've been just using the same car soap I use on the rest of the car (but different bucket), using a microfiber mitt and a toothbrush. There's probably a better way...

I have to agree, the detailers paradise microfiber towels feel soooo soft and don't have any lint issues, was well worth the investment imo

+1 for Autogeek.

Definitely recommend the natural wool mitt -- super soft, and holds a ton of water. Great for getting in all the nooks and crannies of our cars.

Also the firehose-style nozzle is great -- adjustable from shower to hard spray, and very durable.

Anyone know of a pipecleaner type thing for getting in between the LSS spokes? That would be great. Even my pinkie can't get in there.

Because my car is Phantom Black I have gone to the extreme to keep the paint looking good. When I wash the car I use the two bucket method with a pure wool mitt and distilled water. When I scrub the car I don't go in circles I go in one direction lengthways on the car. This way the micro scratches that you get go in one direction and are less noticible. Just look at any other black car and you'll see the spider web circles all over the car, that's from washing in a circluar pattern and drying in a circular pattern. I dry my car with my 220 mph shop vac blower it works very well. After the car is dry I may go over it with some final detail & microfiber towels if it needs it. For wax I use NXT.

Go to home depot and pick up some foam paint brushes, they work great inbetween the spokes.

Foam brushes! Great idea. But they are cheap, buy them at your local hardware store. Support local small businesses!
