Elise review in Grassroots Motorsports

The Elise just got a glowing review from GRM, the ultimate sportscar magazine (IMHO). Nothing is up on their website yet, and I don't think they post all of their articles in full.

A few quotes:

"The fact that the Elise is powered by a Toyota engine will make MR2 comparisons unavoidable. Suffice to say that if Toyota had sent the original MR2 into space and it had accidentally flown through a magnetic field giving it powers beyond that of mere mortals, the Elise is what would have come back in that space capsule."

"The Elise simply handles and drives like few cars in the history of civilization. This is a car you feel so dialed into that you have to check that your nerve endings haven't grown through your skin into the seat."

There are others that I like even more, but they're part of long sequences that I don't feel like re-typing right now (I just got home from a 14 hour day of autocross school, including about 4 hours of travel to and from).

Hopefully someone with a scanner can post it or GRM will have it up at their site soon. I highly recommend the magazine, apart from the great review. It's mostly a wrencher's magazine, but they're honest and are actually interested in real performance over stats.

I suppose I should mention that it's the June 2005 issue with "SPEED SECRETS" on the cover, with what looks to me like a red C4 Corvette on the cover, but it's a bit tough to tell from the angle of the shot. It's on a Dyno, whatever it is.

Excellent! I love GRM but had let my subscription expire. I'll have to pick this one up.

That was pretty good of them cosidering that it appeared that they were not invited to the launch party of the Elise.
We do have one wise sponsor on this forum that advertises on GRM and he'll get my support when the time comes.

I still can't find it in stores yet. I'm hoping since I just subscribed that they'll send me the current issue. Otherwise I guess I will be able to pick it up in a month.

Mine came in a couple of days ago. Nice review! Lotus has their full page Elise ad. I noticed that Blackwatch Racing has a couple of small ads, one of them (page 179) with an Elise picture.

Oh, and the lovely blue Subaru in the SCCA ad on page 164... that's me!

and it can do a whole lot

More than the mainstream reviews, Grassroots Motorsports, highlights the Elise's weight. The title of the feature is "Added Lightness". They seem to get how revolutionary it is to have a car with airbags, power windows and brakes, ac, a stereo, carpet, sound insultation, leather seats that still weighs in under 2,000 pounds [barely].

They also are more effusive regarding the handling and driving feel than many of the other reviews. They seem to simply get what we all get:

"The Elise simply drives like few cars in the history of civilazation. This is a car you feel so dialed into that you have to check that your nerve endings haven't grown through your sikin into the seat."

"... a level of feedback usually reserved for formula cars."

"It's actually tempting to use the word 'perfect' to describe the Elise's handling ..."

"It's not about what's in it, it's about what it can do."

Resurrecting this thread from LONG AGO.

I have scanned the article. I actually had the magazine on my shelf, not knowing I would one day own this car!
