What? Is this common when Starshield is removed?

Don't know if it's common. I removed the front Starshield once without a problem, but I was shocked at how it took off every bit of paint on the side sills, right down to the primer. Saved SCC a bunch of work, but was a bit frightening otherwise.

I took an unofficial crash course on Star Shield as far as installing and more importantly, removing the film.

When removing the film, you need to stretch and pull the film at an angle and not vertically as this may cause the paint to peel. I've done it on cars that came in wrecked, just to get some practice and came off easily but, remember, "stretch and pull at an angle" is the trick.

This kinda sucks. My intent with the Star Shield always was to have protection I could replace as desired... That's how it was described to me when I ordered it... not that I see any other practical alternatives, but still...!

Here is a pic of what this swivel looks like. Very prominent from either side of the car if you're out in direct sun, or direct fluorescents... come on, would you accept this?

Luke, have you called Steve and spoken to him about this since our last conversation?

Negative. I'm swamped right now, but I sorta have an informal vacation coming up in about a week, so I was planning to sit on it until then...

... funny thing, "swamped" still does not keep me off ET...!

Haha - I get that. Working on three projects right now; don't even have time to run and deal with getting a new cell phone, but ET is always a tab away on the ol' browser...

If Star Shield sent one of their people to install the film, you should have them replace it under warranty.

Wasn't Star Shield.

I was told by Sam when he did my film that there is some adhesive holding the film, so I think you can't just peel it off like saran wrap.

Luke, you should be able to make these disappear forever with some pretty easy hand work. Get a bottle of 3M Imperial Hand Glaze. I've had minor swirls and scratches from time to time on my STi and the Imperial Hand Glaze removes them and leaves a (literally) squeaky polished surface. It is not a wax, so you'll need to finish with a wax coat and buff, but you'll never know these were there when you get done.

You can actually use this on the clear bra material, and similarly finish off with wax. The clear bra material cannot be machine-buffed because it will heat and wrinkle/strip, but you can very well do this by hand (or the shop can) and may be able to make this liveable until it can be safely stripped and replaced.

BTW, glad you're back, and thanks for your service.
