Yes, the car was absolutely destroyed in the article. I flipped through it to see where the Lise would place in each category. It was a Prototype Racing car, with something like 280hp or something. It still only managed 13.xx on the 1/4 and 0.9x on the skid. It was rather embarassing. The car was also pretty weak on track, placing near the bottom. It finished last overall.

If I recall, the problem was a # of things:
1. The car was late to the judging. Therefore it got 0 points in a # of events for not even being there. 2. When it did show up, the engine work/tuning was not complete. So it was not running at peak power. 3. I think there were some concerns about the tires. The car was driven from some distance (Not Trailered), therefore it had normal street tires, and not the DOT legal Auto-x or Road Racing wheels like some of the other cars. 4. A couple of events were based on 'Car Show Looks' and 'Girlfriend Friendly' and something like 'Everyday Drivability'. In these events the Lotus was hurting because of the difficulty of entry, limited visibility out the rear/sides and comfort factors. I believe even the article said that things could have been very different if all of the cars had been properly prepped and on time.... For what it is worth: Most of the European based magazines seem to rate the Lotus pretty high on their ‘Must Have’ lists. Based primarily on the fact that you get a supercar look, feel and drive for a modest price. Everyone freely admits it is designed for racing and not as a grocery getter for your wife. Nor was it necessarily designed to be doing 10 hour trips across the New Mexico dessert (although I have indeed done this) in any type of luxurious manner. So no matter what the SCC Ultimate Street Car says, I still love the hell out of my Lotus… ![]() --B |

Mr. Mcartney's car... i have no idea why they let that car in, no chance against how well preparred and sorted the top cars were. i guess the mag didn't do any kind of vetting?
there was another thread about it - mostly very sacarstic!

Aha.. here's the other (sarcastically congratulatory)thread on this very topic:
http://www.elisetalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29911 I imagine that if they had tested a stock Lotus Sport Elise or perhaps a ForcedFed Elise that we would've ranked much better off ![]() |

I don't get it. Why submit a car if its not ready especially if you're trying to promote your business? I don't know Joe or his K20A conversion but after reading that article I don't think I'd be too keen on things.

The whole thing that killed me about the article/cars performance was that their modified Elise performed worse than a stock Elise. I started flipping through it the other night and was immediately like "What the hell, a stock Elise can do that in the quarter, can pull better on the skidpad, etc". Hopefully that car's showing won't kill people's opinions of these cars.
