You're stuck buying it in Canada. Call the importer in Mtl (Scotty), sometime they have used Lotus that they took for a trade up. They don't always advertised their used ones since they want to sell the new one. Just got a used Elise 06 13000KM for a fair price. Don't look for bargain there.

You can actually import quite a few cars from the US into Canada just not the current Elise/Exige. Check out this website on what's allowed into Canada: how to import The Lotus Esprit is allowed to be imported according to the RIV list.

It is possible to import (from any Country) almost any car into Canada that's over 15 years old. So if you wait a few years you can import a Series 1 Elise. I've actually seen a imported 90s Lotus Elan (right hand drive) on the road here.

Weissach In Vancouver has a Starlight Black 07 220S listed, asking $59K.

WEISSACH Auto Details, Porsche, Lamborghini, Lotus, Vancouver, British Columbia, B.C., Alberta, Canada

Good luck with the search. Stick with it, they are out there. If you want to register it, it has to be on the RIV list...no exceptions as per the nice lady at the CRA and the not so nice lady at the registries office, she had issues with me

Well this kinda throws a wrench into my plan 'B' to acquire an Exige from across the border. And just after I found a nice '08 Exige in Ice White (my first choice outside of aspen white), and a couple of Club Racers at Newport Lotus in Cali.

SIMPLE RECIPE FOR EXCITEMENT: Take 1 new Exige. Throw in a supercharger. Add 6 gears. A dash of 94 Octane. A sprinkle of style inside and out. Toss in 1 MadMan. And finally heat tires and pavement to taste. Recipe produces 1 Lotus Exige'S' and full satisfaction. Hammer Down!!

I'm in Canada and was wondering recently what the requirements are to get a US drivers licence and then buy, register and insure a Lotus in the US (at you US address, of course) but then drive it across the border and keep it here? Snowbirds drive their Canadian registered cars/motorhomes in the US half the year so could you do the opposite with a Lotus? With the price difference across the border and the strong Canadian dollar right now, I'm going to look in to doing this.

Am I over-looking an obvious snag?

Okay, now you have me curious. Does anyone know the difference between a Canadian elise/exige and an USA one? Or are they the same and Canada is just protecting their dealerships?

This is to protect the dealerships no doubt. I don't mind it either because it will help with value retention.

Couple of trivial things - clutch interlock switch, km/hr speedo, DRLs (all years). These are for all cars not limited to Lotus. It is a government tariff/barrier to protect a sector of the Canadian economy.
