Driver Training at Mosport, Ontario

Last weekend I attended a 2 day course at Mosport, run by Oshawa MSC. This was recommended to me by one of the OMSC organisers when I was signing up for some lapping events. Having had a fair amount of track driving experience when living in the UK at various corporate entertainment events such as the Joanathen Palmer Motorsport Experience, I was initially sceptical, but since I was now going to be driving my own car, rather than someone else's, I signed up.
What an experience!! This is definitely a hardcore driving school, aimed at encouraging participants to sign up for the Solosprint championship, so participants are pushed/encouraged to find the limits of their cars' capabilities. The fee includes entry to a Solosprint event of your choice during the Summer.
We experienced torrential rain on Saturday (2 spins - don't hit second cam on a slippery track when not pointing in a straight line!) and then a dry Sunday, with a much faster track configuration.
The students were divided into 3 groups, based on experience and alternated between class sessions, skidpad/slalom and track time. Lots of good instructors available, with the added benefit of finishing up the day being driven by the instructors in their cars. This definitely recalibrates your assessment of what is possible....the phrase "controlled violence" best described the experience.
Needless to say, the Elise was magnificent, at least in the dry.... By the end of the course I could treat it like a big go-kart, carrying far more speed through the corners than I would have thought possible and braking almost impossibly late. Even the tires (Bridgestone RE-01Rs) worked fine and were just nicely "buffed" by the end of the weekend.
So $450 very well spent IMO and a big recommendation to those Lotus owners in the Toronto area who haven't already given this a try. Believe me, it will open your eyes to the capabilities of your car.
PS - big thank you to Troy for the LETSLA, which made a HUGE difference.

Ah Mosport, my absolute favorite track. Every turn is blind with elevation and camber changes. It is a real historic Grand Prix track to boot.

Well done, I recommend you go back for more.

I agree - also one of the fastest tracks in the world, so I'm told. Sadly, or sensibly, the course was run on the adjacent and much slower DDT circuit. There's another session scheduled for the GP circuit in July though......
