The fate of importing an S1 Elise in Canada

... might be limited. I'm not sure about the rest of Canada, but word on the street is that in Quebec, you are no longer allowed registering RHD cars. The JDM fanboys are up in arms, but it also means that the earliest 1996 S1 Elises would be unimportable. I wouldn't imagine the rest of the country isn't looking at the same prohibition.

There were LHD S1 cars, but it does limit the import availability under the 15 year clause. I feel bad for the few friends I have who have cars rendered unsellable under the new registration regulations.

Doesn't Quebec give you months to change it LHD?

B.C. is considering doing the same. There are so many dumb little RHD Japanese cars here it's insane.

As you can guess, I'm not in favour of importing RHD cars for use on the street. But does the law in Quebec also apply for "track use only" ??

As for the Elise S1, it won't be 15 years until 2011, and that would be a 1996 model, of which there are very few. 2012 would be 1997, you'd have better odds of importing one from Europe. (I'm waiting for a 340R...)
