Just had my line blow, all the oil down the side of the car due to spraying into passenger rim on the highway at 100km/h. Had it shut down within 5 min. ( to get off the road) towed and repaired, to find out I have thrown a bearing and bent a rod. Read about the recall and am in contact with my dealer ( Weissach) to see what can be done. I will update more when I hear.

The shutting down within five minutes instead of immediately may be an issue. But I also though I saw something about when you can safely do it, so you should get covered.

Dude so sorry! Fight for a new motor and then put RLS or sector lines in on your tab and forget it

RATBONES did Weissach say if they thought a recall was coming at all?
I'm worried about the same happening on my Elise. One of my students had the line blow mid-autocross but luckily the instructor saved it from going into the fence. The longer Lotus Canada waits, the better chance of a significant lawsuit if one of these lines blows at an inopportune time. ![]() Is there an address/email where we can contact Lotus corporately and ask them wtf?

The recall in Canada is official. Transport Canada Recall # 2011390.
I don't know why the dealer is saying otherwise. I know that Lotus has not really come forward with some kind of plan of what parts should be replaced, but the recall is official.

Just got off the fone with Gentry Lane TO. We should all be receiving a formal letter from USA LOTUS. Gentry is just waiting for the parts to come in and it should be a quick 2hr fix they were telling me. They already have the training done. So hope its as easy as pie.
Which of you will be driving your car to the dealer and which of you will get them shipped there on a flat bed? Ciao

just to comment, more like a 5hr job since front clam has to be removed & under a recall here in the States, all lines are replaced [ pulled through both sides of body ], pictures are taken & oil analysis done for metal fragments from eng., then sent to Lotus in England for analysis, if fragments are found then oil cooler will also need to be replaced. Now as far as running engine with no oil, these engines are known to have serious damage done to them because of design with a high rev eng. I can't believe running for 20min you would not have incurred this. I can attest to this because I had this happen to me in less time then it takes to take "pee". I'm fortunate in that I had all lines, oil cooler and a brand new engine out of crate replaced by Lotus earlier this summer. But I do hope you fair well in all this, good luck to you

I got this on Friday from Weissach in Vancouver...
Lotus Recall 2012/01R (NHSTA recall # 11V-510) WHAT WE WILL DO Further to the interim notification letter sent to all registered owners in January 2012, Lotus Cars can now offer an oil cooler line rectification kit consisting of a replacement hose assembly which is fitted between the vehicles front mounted oil coolers and modified hose connectors fitted to both the front to rear oil cooler lines. Your Lotus dealer, Lotus Vancouver, will carry out this work without charge to you. WHAT SHOULD YOU DO? Please contact us as soon as possible to arrange a service date and to enable us to order the necessary parts for the repair. The labour time necessary to perform this service correction is approximately four hours. Hope this helps

I received the same letter last week.
Question: Since they are in there with the clam off, what other mods would be easy to do? Kev

I had an exchange with the dealer (John Scotti) yesterday and the service guy (Paul Ouellette) confirmed that my car was on the recall list. They have the required parts in stock so when the snow clears I just need to book an appointment. Here's his email address for those in the Montreal area:

I didn't received a letter and I wonder if my elise will be part of this recall.
I saw that there is a new recall that came out today at Transport Canada Recall # 2013039. This recall is an expansion of recall 2011390 for vehicles not previously included. Hopefully we all receive a letter. |
