To answer your question directly, Austin is mildly humid. San Antonio and Dallas are humid and Houston is most humid. All however are a step below Florida humidity.

Austin is my hometown so I have just a modicum of experience on the subject. Dallas is the least humid of all those on your list and it just gets more humid as one travels south. Austin then San Antonio... finishing with Houston.

Dallas is typically much colder in the winter than either Austin and the others. By at least 10 degrees or so. The wind blows harder up there in North Texas too.

The young Fuzz should check Texas out. You can live almost anywhere for at least a year.

The humidity in NYC last week felt higher than Austin. Think of Austin summers as most people's Winter. You only spend time outside certain times of the day however the Winter days in Austin usually have highs in the mid 60s. There is enough season change to not be boring like Socal but not enough to keep you from outside activity year round.

I've lived in and around Fort Worth my whole life. If I had a choice I'd live in Austin with San Antonio a close second. There is an area known as the hill country between them that has some of the best roads in Texas. Forget the snow. Even if we get some, there are no mountains go down. Its rare regardless. There are plenty of tracks worthy of the Lotus and a couple of schools that can provide you access without breaking the bank. Apex Driving Academy and The Drivers Edge I've run with both.

So come on out. Just leave any liberal political BS in CA...there's no place for that business here in Texas.

Unlike most of Texas, Austin has lots of liberals and usually votes Democrat.

Texas has a balanced budget and no personal income tax. CA is going to tax the snot out of it's resident and businesses in the upcoming years to make up for budget shortfalls.

However you just might have to ask yourself when you awake every morning do you want to wake up in Texas?

Austin, Texas still hasn't figured out how to install curbs or patch potholes. A very sad thing for the 21st century.

Lived in Dallas for 13 years...now living in LA for year 7

NO STATE INCOME TAX....yes it's FREE TO LIVE IN TEXAS! For me, this would mean about $600 a month extra in my pocket.

Just sayin'.....

Don't let anyone hate on Texas....maybe you run into a bit of racism. But living in California...I mean everyone here is racist against everyone else. I have never in my life had more "citizens" all up in my **** than here in California. Everyone is yelling at everyone here, for everything...it's mean and a pain in the ass.

I think California is a huge piece of crap and would gladly move back to the great state of Texas.

Only move to Texas if you want lots of personal space, 4 full seasons, more money in your pocket, more home for your buck, less governmental annoyance, great food, awesome football and open roads.

Austin is more "rural" think Mountain bikes and jet skis, girls might have hairy armpits...but will gladly share a bong rip with you.

Dallas is more "cosmopolitan" think fancy restaurants and lounges, girls have lots of hair and all the modifications and want your money.

San Antonio is more "latino", them latin girls are BOOTYLISCIOUS!

Ft. Worth is more "cowboy" think honky tonk and rodeos...I'm not sure I ever saw a girl there...

and Houston is.....well......Houston....they have an Ikea there.

Personally, if given a chance I'd move to Austin, buy a house where I could afford it...get a boat...and enjoy me some life...

When I lived in Dallas, what I found interesting "politically" was all the billboards promoting god..yes...BILLBOARDS PROMOTING GOD......but thing is..they were right behind or in front of billboards promoting STRIP CLUBS..WAHOOO!!!

Yeah Texas is more "republican" or whatever....there is a lot more "religion" there. But like I said before, the amazingly forward looking and thinking state of California is INFINATLY more annoying to live in than Texas. Texas "views" on politics and religion take a back seat to Texas, if that makes sense...where as Californa is ALL ABOUT that garbage...or rather ALL NOT about that garbage which makes is even MORE about that crap.

As an example...with all the Prop 8 crap here in California there were stupid "demonstrations" in LA a while back that caused all sorts of annoying traffic, blocked streets. Just people getting all in the way of other people trying to make some point....but basically causing EXTRA annoying gridlock all over west LA when people are just trying to get home from work. I never saw a group of church goers in Texas cause city wide traffic problems to support their cause.....

...and you can also protect your personal property with deadly force...or at least could.......there is something about that I like....

...I miss Texas.

...having lived in both states - wow, eric nailed it, spot-on...

...what surprised me the most about california was how overt and pervasive racism ran amongst what i expected to be a reasonably educated and progressive population, orders of magnitude beyond what i've ever experienced in texas...

Eric nailed it.

Because most people in Austin have friends of widely different political beliefs, the politics gets left at home when a group goes out to dinner and instead we talk about cars, kids, skiing ....... When in CA, I feel like I am being assaulted by a cult trying to convert me.

I've lived in Texas all my life. The most heated discussion about politics I've ever had was at a wedding in San Francisco, 2001. The guy to my right became nothing short of hostile when I told him I was from Texas. He hated GWB, blah blah blah and didn't ever seem to hear the part about how I voted for someone else. It was amazing and embarrassing.

I always thought it was a fluke, but after reading the previous comments, maybe a lot of folks in California are like that.

Austin, which I am forced to share with dickedup, is a great town. Hinted at by previous posters, Austin is a blast. There is a tremendous amount of entertainment here. We have many venues of live music, lots of parks and outdoor areas, several lakes, lots of nearby hunting and fishing, museums, nightlife and scads of attractive women.

Austin is also very livable. Traffic isn't like Houston or Dallas (or LA). If you live near downtown, cycling is a realistic option for transport.

The city and the state are still debating about the wall to surround Travis County. It might be built to keep the rednecks out, but it might be built to contain the hippies. The decision determines who pays.

If I had to leave Austin, I'd leave Texas.

I have lived in Austin for 8 years, and I still like it. Here is an Austin website. You may find some useful information.
