On a curios note, why people are so fascinated by chrome rims in America? I see bimmers that have these big chrome rims, even on Mercedes, makes me puke. Is there any real reason for the chrome dipped rims?
FYI, Many times those "chrome rims" aren't chrome at all but polished aluminum or other alloy.

Hey you guys you are hi-jacking our thread. I know I may have started some of this, but crome wheel discussions and cars painted to look like vomit, this tread has moved off topic.

Maybe we asked the Lotus Administrator to have a seperate form (kind of like Ferrari does for is Silver/ Black private subscriptions) for the girls only, and we can discuss all the thinks we love to talk about, cars and girl stuff. And not have the guys peering over our shoulders.

trying to get back on topic here...

Kerri, do you heel and toe downshift? I just looked up what that is and damn, that sounds hard! I know, practice. I do the same thing on a motorcycle, but it is a lot easier! I'll have to work on that before you whiz me around the canyons!

I do it some, and not real proficient at it, but I do not know if you noticed, but I seldom use the brakes, as I believe as soon as you brake there is a momentary lost of control/ tire rotation, especially on up hills, I tend to be in a lower gear maintaining 4-5k rpm which means when you ease up on the gas the lower gear ratio slows the car down a bit, using this to pull through the corner or downshift, if I do before I shift push in the clutch and give it more gas to raise the rpm to match the tranny speed. The downhills require more heel toe technique.

My overall objective when driving to be as smooth and controlled as possible, not jerky forward and aft (e.g. acceleration/ de-acceleration/ braking) and side to side (e.g. using the steering along with the power of the car, drifting and powersliding through the turns). (When I am riding the bike down these hills, it provides me the feeling and motion of snow skiing, even then I am braking and I am pedaling to keep the wheels rotation around these corner, front wheel braking tends to straighten out the bike and spend me more upright. Took one time to realize that, was turning from Piuma to Shuren (sp), braking around the corner, rear tire hit the paint on the road the bike slide out from under me at 30 mph, landed on my axx and slide to a stop, nearly ripped the shorts off my left side, it was fun riding home 20 miles especially up Kanan at noon on Saturday, with 1/2 my axx exposed and bleeding.)

While I have had the car since Oct 07 and put 4k miles on it, 3k were driving these hills. Each time faster and faster, in small increments, learning my limits and the cars limits. Took me a little time before I took it up enough to find the sweet spot where the car was starting to break traction, when use this to power/ slide around the corners. Push it too much and you are into the guardrail, side of the mountain or off the road. Knowing the road well helps, as you can focus more on technique and not second guessing the road.

While this is not the track and it may be safer on the track, I do not know if I would want to drive 2 hours to the middle of the desert, to go around in circle (track), where I can decide to take a run, in 5-10 minutes be in the canyon, get some of the best views of the ocean, scenery, and mountains. The "top of the world" still by far has the best view I have seen anywhere.

Now watch the guys chime in, and say I do not know what I am talking about or how to drive, after all we are women in a mans sport. Unlike any other sport there is not a womens and mens league. But hey maybe we having something going here in a noncompetitive environment.

Sorry if I got a little long winded.

Hey Kerri,

One thing you've mentioned is knowing the road. That's important.

What scares me is the oncoming traffic (cars, pocket rocket motorcycles) and bicycles on those roads. Also slows me down is my passenger (Terry), not the added weight, but the added responsibility.

You have more skills than mine, sometimes when I lead a group, I never know if I'm boring everyone driving slow, or driving too fast. The best thing is to separate the more aggressive drivers and let them do their own pace. That works the best.

Exactly.

As you know, many times I will ride the roads in the morning (noting the conditions, rocks, etc) and drive them in afternoon. In the afternoon or late afternoon most of the people have come and gone. I have some comfort that the road is less travelled. I am out there for the enjoyment and not to impress anyone, Mulholland is heavily travel and I obt for the less travel more challenaging roads. With the car or on the bike, my number rule is to not cross the center line, and if I do it is because of my error in judgement and is somewhat as safety margin. I will not cross it to take a straighter route, even when I know it is clear of on coming traffic. On Sunday when 10 cyclists were coming down Decker to the PCH a few were passing others cyclists by crossing the on-coming traffic, I will not do that no matter what, as I want to ride and drive another day.

You would be surprised at what I found coming up Decker, dump truck, had crane trying to drive up it one time was having to use both sides of the road to make the turns, it can be crazy.

Hal, if the drive were to be broken up between the slow and fast, fast should be defined as driving spiritely to agressive and knowing the road well, knowing the road well is a must. My fear about driving Tuna canyon is coming to stop sign and slower spots, and those that do not know road but are driving agressively could come around the corner run into others in front.

A lot of the people asking for pics might be kidding but I doubt it is a coincidence that it is a girl meet and thus the requests for pics. Not to be all heavy but that just contributes to the objectification of women being judged by their looks. If you think about it, it is better without pics because then you can make up whatever fantasy harem of female Lotus drivers you want. What if pics are posted and they are just average women or beautiful but not your type? (And I didn't go so I can't speak to the lovely ladies in question but I personally think all female Lotus drivers rock!). Just leave it to your imagination.

Oh and P.S. per an earlier post, I don't like the idea of a women-only forum section. Seems lame to promote segregation. It's like having certain threads only open to certain ages or ethnicities. I like inclusivity better.

I think you're going WAY overboard. After every Lotus group drive I've ever done, someone on this board has asked for pics. No big deal. We always take pics so that others can "share the experience". It's not some ploy to check out chicks and their Lotuses. (Not that there's anything wrong with that!)

A few examples...

SUNDAY DRIVE...Agoura Hills, Southern Cal.

I could as well. Many times after the group heads back up from PCH via Kanan or Las Virginas, I will head up Decker or Mulholland, just to get more twisties in. I usually do it alone.

And those of you obessed about the picture, we did not have that much time. At 12:40 after coming up latigo, I asked Rachel what time she needed to be back she said 12:45, I told that was in 5 minutes, she then said 1pm was OK, I told we could go up Kanan which is a little boring or pick-up Mulholland, so we went via Mulholland down Decker, and were back at my house at 1pm. April just followed us. Once we got back, Rachel hopped into her car and left, no time for pictures.

The pictures, Flash G attached tend to be more pictures of the cars rather than the occupants. And if we were to do that you guys would still not be satisfied.
