SoCal Track days
Well my life is finally to a point where I can go on some track days...YES THAT'S RIGHT.....UNEMPLOYMENT!!!!
SO that being said, is there a list of all the "local" events? I know about speed ventures, and that's about it. I've never had my car on the track, although I've been on the track 2 times (Streets o'Willow) on my motorcycle. Any help would be appreciated. I have to go out of town in about 2 weeks to take care of some things in Texas, and I'd LOVE to get into a track day before then. I know about the 24th at Streets of Willow. |

Why don't you join the Lotus Challenge series? Lotus Challenge Series - Auto Racing
Great group of people and they can instruct you on how to get faster.

awesome, exactly what I was looking for. Now can I get some advice? Any particular tracks, groups I should stay away from on my first time.
For the record, like I siad I've had my bike on the track 2 times, and I regularly visit Mullholland Raceway :-) so I would put my skill level at NEWBish, but I'm pretty sure I wont be baseline raw. *whimper* Challenge Series looks awesome, but it looks like it's pretty much over here at the local tracks anyway? Thanksgiving at Laguna sounds phenominal. |

Hey Eric,
I have ran with LCS, Speed Ventures, and Redline Time Attack...all good organizations with different feels...most important thing is Safety!....they are all pretty safe and well organized. LCS is run very well, and emphasis is on safety....they have only one more event left in Vegas at Spring Mtn....prizes are included! SV is very popular and sometimes too crowded...all levels of trackers are out there...Aaron runs a pretty good organization. Redline is run by Chris and is a little more relaxed then SV, and I would say a little less crowded....more of a "kick back" feel, but still safe. You could also start doing NASA, but they are much more rigid in rules and regulations. If I were you I'd run SV or Redline...see you at the track!

If you have the time, the best obvious choice is a race school. Fast Lane at Willow has a great program and it's local, I am looking into that program or the Skip Barber program at Laguna. I wouldn't recommend just going out with a large group like Speed Ventures unless you get an instructor for the entire day to work with you. Regardless of past experience there is just too much going on that would hamper your progress - cars going off, track getting dirty, too much traffic, etc. It's wonderful you have previous experience on a bike, you'll have natural skills for eye movement, looking ahead, etc.
Another ideal situation is a low volume track day with an instructor for the day. I would tend to stay away from large volume track days with more than 20 or so cars in a run group for your first outing. Lastly, Buttonwillow Raceway has a car control clinic coming up in December. It's a great introduction to having your car out with lots of instructors - I will be going to that for sure it's a lot of fun.
