Angry SUPERCAR SUNDAY BITES THE DUST!!!

Every Sunday from early morning 'til 11am, hundreds of sports car enthusiasts were meeting in a large parking lot in Woodland Hills, Southern California. There we could shoot the breeze and gawk at amazing cars of all ages, types and brands. I've never seen so many exotic cars (Lotus, Lambos, Ferraris, Porsches, Cobras, Ford GT's, on and on, etc...) in one spot. Even the local police enjoyed the cars and the enthusiasm. Many times, Jay Leno brought amazing collector cars to share with us. The local coffee stand was thriving and the excitement, fun and enthusiasm overpowed the baddies who would rev engines and smoke tires when they decided to leave.

Not anymore! The impromptu car show has forcefully banned. A huge crew of security guards and a hand of police officers forced everyone out of the parking lot. If you park and walk to look at a few cars left, the security guards would scream at you to "GET ON THE SIDEWALK IMMEDIATELY!!!" They were not polite and it reminded me of the police reaction of 1960's protests! I tell you, IT WAS AWFUL!! Expensive metal painted and permanent signs are posted on each lightpost :"NO CAR SHOW PARKING, STORE CUSTOMERS ONLY. VIOLATORS WILL BE SHOT AND BURNED TO THE STAKE!" or something like that.

I felt like the song from Buffalo Springfield " "For it's Worth". "There's a man with a gun over there, telling you to beware..."

1. What caused this? Complaints? Insurance wimp-os?
2. When and where can we meet as did before? Any ideas?

It was nice when it lasted...

That is sad! Probably some store owner complaining that customers could not park on Sunday before 11am.

This started about a month ago I believe. The landlord was getting complaints from the other businesses supposedly and he put a stop to it.

See above. It only takes one or two to tar the whole bunch.

I miss the group drives along Mulholland! I don't have a Lotus anymore, but does anyone drive next Sunday?

The next SpeedVentures at Streets is 2 weeks away! I'm going Saturday! Andy, are you planning that weekend?

LotusTalk has an IMMEDIATE RESPONSE (minutes) on the forum! Amazing!
Porsche forum takes days or weeks for a response!

I plan on going to Speed Venture's Fontana event. Not sure if I'll do autocross or track, or maybe both. We'll see. The next two weekends I won't be available for a drive. Sorry Hal!

Well, it is California, land of the ultra-libs. Heck, I would not be surprised if they pass laws making it illegal to own a car that accelerates "too fast".

I would suggest finding another spot, with a great coffee shop and some interesting other shops. Approach the shop owners and let them know that by approving this event, they would be bringing tons of extra folks in on Sunday mornings, when things might normally be slow. Have the restaurants offer free treats as an incentive to come in for food. It might work!

Gee thanks for the advice, good thing you people in Vaginia are smahta than us Cali "libs" cause we woulda neva thought of lookin for anutter spot

Has nothing to do with "Libs" or politics, it is private property and the event was growing too big and some of the bigger businesses in the mall were losing business to the fact that there was no parking left for their customers. Additionally, people were being asshats and leaving trash, doing burnouts and speeding out of the place, so this was bound to happen.
The Coffee shops and restaurants loved it, but they don't own the property.

Hal, this has been going on for a number of weeks now, I posted about it in the Sunday drive thread Los Angeles Sunday Drive - meet @8:30AM / Leave @9:00AM [PART 2]

Thanks Morgan, I'm always the last to know. I drove in today at 8:30am and was totally surprised!
Does the Orange County Car Show togethers still happening?

It really is sad, seems like losing old friends! It will never be the same with Morgan's Orange Caterham, Rachel's Red Elise, Randy's Black Exige, Jun's Espirit, and other good friends!

...this same pattern repeats over and over again in nearly every region, it seems - give it time, a new event will grow to fill the vaccuum...

You know, they should be praising this ****. It keeps people off the streets and united in a peaceful gathering between enthusiasts. F- that.

Again, it has nothing to do with the state, it was the owners of private property that put a stop to both events

It's no secret that California has been the king of automotive douchebaggery for quite some time.

I guess you like getting fined for having an intake without a sticker, or getting a fine for an exhaust that is 50 state legal. Or perhaps you like having your prized possession crushed because you couldn't produce a receipt for a motor swap you had done.

Are we seriously arguing this?
