Corner weight scales for rent

If you're into doing your own suspension work, I have a set of Intercomp scales for doing your own corner weights that I picked up a few months ago. These can do up to 1600 LB per scale and are amazingly precise.

I built full leveling pads for them so you can do it right even on a non-level garage floor (and they are all non-level!).

I'll rent them to any local LT member for $75 a week. These things are big and heavy, so they can't be shipped. You pick up and drop off in Lake Forest Park anytime or Woodinville during the week. Not sure they will actually fit in an Elise, FYI.

I have a laser level and some sandbags you can borrow as well if you need.

cool idea, but if i had a set of scales, rather than renting them, i would just let people who are cool come over to my place and use them.

nice way to make friends, and what comes around goes around (as far as helping each other out) good karma.
it would suck to have something go wrong on your car, and a local guy tell you,"hey i can easily fix that for you...........for $75".

I was just looking at my Nitrons thinking it's too bad you can't rent corner balance scales anywhere in the Twin Cities. If he could ship them easily, I'd be glad to help defray his purchase cost by renting them for a reasonable amount as it's something I'll hopefully only have to do once.

Given how long it takes to do a good corner weight, I'm not sure I really want to offer just anyone 4-8 hours of my time. That's a lot of karma! If it took 60 minutes, I'd be all over it and would tell people to just come by. The whole reason I listed it as a week rental was that I wanted people to have plenty of time to do a good alignment without feeling rushed. If they need it for 2 weekends, then fine. I'm all for karma and community, but I have a family and a job and can't give up a whole weekend day.

If someone does just want to weigh the car (not adjust it) then I'm happy to do that anytime I have a free 15 minutes.

Also, given that the scale setup I have is somewhere in the neighborhood of $2K, and most people only need it once, I think the price is reasonable. You can get it done at a shop for a couple hundred, or do it yourself for a lot less. I would have happily paid $75 to rent the scales for two weekends rather than buy and build the setup I have, but nobody was offering that. So my karma here is having bought a really expensive tool and trying to get it to people in an affordable way.

I'd ship, but they need to be in a box that is 2' x 2' 18" and weighs about 100 lbs. Yuck.

If you ever do decide to ship it for any reason, you might look into using ForwardAir and a shipping crate of some sort. It's quite a bit cheaper than UPS and whatnot for heavy parcels, and if you built a decent crate for it you could probably reuse it many times/store it/etc.
