Portland Critter Cruise 22 Nov

No need to RSVP, just let me know if you plan on coming so we can drive down together if the group desires. I'm in touch with Bagpypr, so any more info you might need, just ask.

Most of you probably have at least one pet in the house. We have five; Holly - the German Shepherd, Scarlett - the Siamese cat, Patch - the infamous one-eyed shelter kitty, Boris - the parakeet and Spike - the beta fish. They are all loved and ridiculously spoiled members of our family.

However, as this is written there are 88 dogs, 138 cats and 36 birds, rabbits, hamsters or other small animals who have no place to call home except the Oregon Humane Society.

For those who did not know, the Oregon Humane Society does not receive any public funding through the collection of taxes. Their sole source of funding is animal lovers like all of us. So in the spirit of giving during the holidays, who better to receive help than those who truly cannot help themselves – homeless pets.

Come join the “Critter Cruise” to be held on Saturday, November 22, 2008. We will start the day with a hearty breakfast then head over to Pet Smart with “wish lists” in hand supplied by the Oregon Humane Society for some “dog-gone” fun shopping!

Once we have our pet presents, we will make a cruise up 82nd Avenue in the traditional “low ‘n slow” fashion so as to better show off any special décor you may have dreamed up (Go for it Babybat!) then on to the shelter.

When we arrive, we will be greeted in the parking lot by OHS volunteers and some of their furry charges for photo ops, weather permitting. Once we deliver our goodies, they have arranged an exclusive behind the scenes tour of their incredible facility and we can meet some of the animals that are looking to be adopted. Who knows, maybe some of you will go home with a new forever friend!

Please RSVP as soon as you can so we can let the shelter know how many of us to expect (and we hope to arrange for special parking as well so we need to know how many cars). The Oregon Humane Society is very excited to welcome us and we hope to have a great showing for them!

Saturday, November 22, 2008.

Schedule:

8:30 am -10:00 am Meet for breakfast at Biscuits Cafe
9201 SE 91st Avenue, Suite 100, Portland

10:00 -10:45 am Shopping at PetSmart
9450 Se 82nd Avenue, Portland

10:45 -11:30 am Cruise to Shelter

11:30 -12:30 Shelter tour/meet the animals

We will run in rain or shine so bring your holiday spirit, a big heart and a generous wallet. Dressing up your car is encouraged, but not required. Santa hats are also encouraged!

Note: This event is open to anyone that wants to participate; they do not need a Kappa car to join us.

It is a great thought. For those that are north and think going down to Portland is little too far. Check out Noah just off I-5. It is south of Slyviana on the East side of the freeway. The dogs are mostly abandoned and they have great write ups that the volunteers contribute to each time they interact with the animal. You can really get a sense for the personality of each animal before you decide to buy. They also offer insights like,

"isn't he cute? well be careful if you like this little guy. Look at his feet. His is an XXX breed which typically get to be about 1XX lbs by the time they are a year old. These are very large dogs when full grown and eat a tremendous amount of food."

Ok, next.

Some of the write ups make you want to take the animal home that day. cecilia and I almost did. But, we held back. We'll likely get one soon after I get home.

Great cause, and do post pics if anyone goes and rescues an animal.

Good luck with your event! My boys have a swim meet at the MAC Club Saturday or we'd certainly attend.

Yeah. I hope it's a good event too. The Oregon Humane Society is a favorite charity of mine. Unfortunately, I'll be with my kid at a gymnastics class.

If you can't make it from start to finish, at least see if you can show up later. So far I'll be the only Lotus attending and I live up in mid western washington.
