Pretty crazy weather!

Streets are iced over and we're getting more snow and strong winds in just a bit!

Nice Here for Now

It was a very pleasant 72 ºF and partly sunny here today. A wonderful first day back from Germany - from Glühwein and Weihnachtsmärkte to touring the twisties in West Central Alabama. The Cali came out to play on some of the great roads and it was sunny enough that I came home with a sunburn. The weather is supposed to turn cold this weekend so this was probably 'the last hurrah' for this year, but maybe we'll have some nice days in January.

All i gotta say 'bout this weather is that I'd better be able to do all my christmas shopping in walking distance!

I bought the Elise on the basis of this simple idea. It snows 2x a year in Washington, and those 2 times I can drive the Miata on it's snows.

Then I got a great offer on the Miata and let it go with this justification. THose 2 times it snows, it melts the next day! Missing 2 days of work is no excuse to keep a car 363 other days!

... now i'm carless in the snow, what the hell? With the windstorm and 8 more inches coming, i'm gonna be struggling to get to work for weeks!

It is uncommon that we have snow before Christmas. I am not sure that I have been in the state during a white Christmas (in Seattle) in my whole life.

Its pretty bad here. I'm currently offshore on a drillship West of Shetland Island in the North Atlantic. N61 W3.5 if you want to look it up. Temps hover around freezing and we have had two weeks of peak seas over 20'. Last night the peak wave height was over 35'. Tonight is supposed to be even worse with a peak wave height around 50' and 60 knot (70 mph) winds.

Wow! Be careful out there. I thought we had it bad over here! Snow isnt causing too much of an issue here but the temps are low and causing streets to freeze over. This is about 20 miles south of my house...

It's gonna be a LONG time before my car sees the light of day again By the time the snow melts, more snow will probably come...

We got like 8" last night.

I'm worried about the temperature and my poor tires! Car's staying inside until it gets at least a little warmer. I'm sure the car would be fine in the snow (and in fact many of our friends up north drive in the snow) but the tires I have on it on the other hand are not fine, not fine at all.

I lived in Massachusetts before Washington. The snow storms in Seattle seem fairly tame in comparison, but we don't have the same infrastructure to deal with it.

I'll take the city being shut down for a couple days over having roads torn up by snow plows, and cars wrecked by salt and sand.

its odd here, one side of the streets are totally snow free, the other has 2 -3 inches of snow, sun/shade.

I feel for ya. This morning the wind chill was a steady -24F with gusts bringing it down to -35 (according to Milwaukee TV).
Not fun stuff.

Nope, lots of wind and drifting snow in Lake County, IL.
I went out to run errands in my 4Runner and saw many stuck cars in ditches.

Be careful out there Tracy!

In port orchard we got total of 18 inches. My nissan was buried. We live at the bottom of a cauldesac with a hill leading down to the house. We were stuck in the house for 2 days. Couldn't drive even with my wifes snow tires no bueno. Probably didn't help that kids were snowboarding down the hill. Plow man tried to remedy the road conditions and he got stuck too. All is clear meow though.

My brother lives in the Seattle area and they can't drive down their street with the BMW or Mercedes. He is out shopping now for a Lexus SUV.

San Diego has been cold and rainy for San Diego. Today though is sunny and 70 degrees.
