High Plains Lapping Sept 25 and Oct 09
I'll be there with some friends.
I'm not fast but it's always fun to have others there to compare notes. If you haven't been, a Friday session is usually very laid back and you can get as much track time as you could possibly imagine (I generally get between 7-8, 20 min sessions). I would recommend this over the Exotic Car Club event if you have any previous track experience. |

It was an incredible day despite being cold and wet in the morning.
I was able to muster consistent low 2:04's and saw some 2:03's on the lap timer. 3:45pm session 4:45pm session I'll be doing it all over again in 2 weeks on October 9th come out and join. I'd be happy to show someone the ropes. |

Oh, I dunno, 2:03s / 04s seem pretty fast to me. Nicely done.
Not sure when I'll be out there again, but I've got 400+ laps there so far this season. What a great layout and track. I'm down at Pueblo this weekend instucting with the BMW club. If I have any R888 left after that I'll look to get to a few more open lapping days at HPR. Let me know if you are heading out to HPR.

I will be out there on October 9th for sure. I would really like to see you out there if you've got the tire. I wouldn't know what a fast lap out at HPR is as I've never really had the opportunity to lap with other experienced Elise drivers (I do know the lap record for a car is in the 1:40's).
But you're correct I've got some track experience, but I don't want to dissuade anyone from coming out because they're afraid of being slow. The quickest way to steepen your learning curve is to learn from a more experienced driver. Frank, what kind of lap times are you doing? Do you have any video's to share some lines? I have limited experience in Pueblo but my stock Elise was lapping around 1:45 the last time I was down in Pueblo. Quote:

Ugh, I just saw your last two posts (I s'pose I should subscibe to threads I'm a part of, eh?). Either way, I wasn't able to make it out today as I have no rear tahrs left (they were pretty much toast for Pueblo when I was there on Saturday) and no battery for that matter. Let me know how it is though. I'm considering open lapping on Friday afternoon 10/16.
Check this vid HPR Lap times D Sports Racer 1:41.9 (lap record) Formula Enterprises open wheel Mazda: 1:47 GTA1 Class Porsche: 1:50.7 Spec Miata record is 2:09 flat Motorcycle record is 1:44 (Fn flyin'!) I haven't officially timed myself, but in the '05 Elise runnning R888s I'm at ~2:10 Pueblo Typical Lap Times Porsche 993 1:48:1 Porsche 944-Spec 1:49 - 1:54 Spec Miata 1:49 - 1:54 Spec Porsche 911 TT 1:49 - 1:5 You're rockin' it. Congrats. Perhaps I'll see you next Friday.

The track was cold and a little slippery but I always have a good time. I was able to work on turn 3,5 and 7 and dropped my times into the 2:00.XX.
It would have been nice to break the 2min barrier but that will need to be on another day with a little more heat in the track. I'm due for a set of brake pads and I'd like to get a little more front end grip so I think I'm going to get some steering arms and increase the front camber. Hopefully I have another day or two on my RA1's and then I need to decide 888 or NT01 (I need to hold off on the Hoosier crack as long as possible). 2:00.63 lap at HPR on Vimeo |

2.00s. Nice! I'd be happy w/ 2:05s for the moment! I'm doing the Lotus Sport Ohlins & front bar + Cup 240 wheels over the winter. Not sure what kinda tires I'll run yet though. I have been running R888s in stock sizes, but my understanding is that they are being discontinued and Toyo is bringing the RA1 back from the dead. I LOVED the RA1s when I used to run them on my Audi. Here's hoping that Toyo sold enough 195/50-16 R888s that they bring the RA1 out in that size when they reintroduce 'em. I don't despise the 888 like the Spec Miata & Spec 944 folks do. Yeah it heat cycles, but not like the A048s do. Everything's relative I guess. I may actually try and find a set of used A005 slicks to try on the cup wheels. I have three sets of wheels so I may do:
R888s for club events (4-5 ~20 min heat cycles per day). A048s for open lapping (less sessions, but longer stints). A005s (****s & grins). What size RA1s are you running? Rumor has it that NT01s are the same compund as RA1s (with a different tread pattern of course). If you want to install V2 arms and brake pads, I have the tools... V2Arms Install Log (pics & questions too) Sadly, I don't have the lift installed in the garage yet, but I'd gladly trade you out for some HPR tips n tricks!

Thanks for the offer on the tools I will definitely take you up on it.
I looked at the pics and the lift you used looks very similar to Pete's lift at the Tire Source? I'm running a 15/16 setup on my Elise. 225 front and 245 rear. I was eyeballing the Ohlins setup but I think the spring rates are on the border of too soft and the spring sizes aren't very easy to come by. I went with a DA Nitron setup and I have a garage full of springs to play with. I also looked at your rear camber settings: LR: -2.5 degrees camber w/ ABS sensor bracket shim + 1.0mm V2 shim RR: -2.4 degrees camber w/ ABS sensor bracket shim + 1.0mm + 0.5mm V2 shims How are your rear insides wearing? I was running:LR: -2.5 RR: -2.3. The pyrometer and tire wear said the insides of the tires were doing more work. I put a shim back in each side before the last sessions on Friday and the rear felt a little more stable... As for sheets and giggles, I'd like to run some slicks but $$$ per heatcycle I'm not sure my wallet can take it. Last edited by tempaccount : 10-11-2009 at 11:55 AM. |
