Question Need some New Mexico advice

Hi all. We will be going to Santa Fe tomorrow. Any areas we should/shouldn't end up in? Also is there something worth doing there? We are coming from Lubbock, TX and then heading to Vegas, so anything else worth doing in New Mexico along our route is appreciated.

Thanks

Actually as the next day is a longer drive we may push on to a town west of Albuquerque and stay there tomorrow night, but still looking for interesting things along the way...

Spend some time around the plaza and then...

drive up Canyon Road to El Farrol on the corner of Camino del Monte Sol--park safely in the dirt lot across from El Farol-about a buck an hour and walk up and down Canyon Road to get the real flavor of the teriffic art scene. El Farrol is very funky-cool for drinks and tapas. There is a reasonably priced restaurant with quite good food half-way up Canyon Road on the left with some outside seating that is very Santa Fe(forget name sorry) but you cannot miss it. Your car should be safe in that lot just be careful pulling in! Stay away from the Cerrriotts Road area if possible. email me directly at bmoyles@sbcglobal.net if I can further help! All the best, bill

I drove from Santa Rosa, NM, along US-84 (historic Route 66) to Sante Fe on New Year's Eve. I-40 was close and they routed everyone up to I-25 to get to Albuquerque. It was after 10 pm and the temperature was about 15 F. There snow was probably 2-3 feet deep along the sides of the road. Becaue of heavy traffic, we moved slowly. There was a full moon and the scenery was quite "enchanting".

p.s. -- don't get confused by the signs for Las Vegas, NM -- you'll be very close to there tomorrow.

We saw the Las Vegas, NM signs today

We ended up driving a bit further than we planned, so should be able to meet up with you sometime in the am. We are currently here, and this is the route we did.
