...harris hill road is great fun; if i weren't bunkered down for the summer on a very restricted budget i'd be all over this event...

...those of you who can afford it, do - you'll love it...

Flattered, but...

I'm flattered that they'd include one of my early runs at H2R as a video. Looking at the line I was driving CCW around the track is embarrassing.

I was out there last weekend and ran 1:36 lap times in my 99 Miata, both CW and CCW. There is likely 3-4 more seconds to be gained with a little coaching. In the Lotus (i.e. about 100 hp more power) I'm sure I could drop that time by 3-4 seconds.

Of course the master of driving H2R in a Lotus is Prof. Chili. He can lay down some seriously fast laps times. If you want to see how to run H2R, check out his videos and ignore mine.

If you own a Lotus Elise or Exige you owe it to yourself and your car to drive this track at least once. It is seriously that much fun. The track is relatively easy to learn, but hard to master.

Any in town (Austin) options?

Soulspeed in Austin has some Zamp (?) helmets - very reasonable. If you want something a little nicer you can head down to the Simpson Racing factory store in New Braunfels.

I'll probably be there with something that day. MX5, Exige... or something new?

...bear in mind that simpson's factory store is only open weekdays during business hours - it took me a couple of tries to successfully make my way inside, but their personal service was great...

Thumbs up H2R video CW and CCW

For those who have not been to H2R, here are two videos that I took this past weekend. Lap times are decent (CW - 1:36.0 and CCW - 1:36.8) for a '99 Miata, but certainly not track records.

Go search Youtube for more.

So that ya'll non-members get a chance to drive this course, I'll likely not sign-up. Go have fun with your car at this track!

BTW, if your are thinking about membership this is a pretty normal Sunday at H2R. Minimal traffic and as much seat time as you can handle.

All,

I'm a new member who happened upon your forum while looking for a good HPDE near Houston. I'm not a lotus owner but I'm definitely a fan.

How would you guys feel about a 2004 GTO, a 2001 M3, a Dinan'ed 2002 M5, and maybe Mini / GTI / S4 type of crowd joining in for this event? Most of us have autocrossed but track days sound like a blast...

TheTurk -

I'm sure they would love to have you and your friends there. It is not intended to be a Lotus-only event.

But I'm surprised they are billing it as their first HPDE...?

They're actually organizing it themselves as opposed to renting the track to an outside group.

Yup... They have also pulled from their more experienced members for instructors. I believe there are 5 lotus guys instructing at the event. Should be fun.

This is video from my first track event at Harris Hill Road. The track was wet all day so I could not really get a fast lap time in. It is great track BTW.

All are welcome. Check with the track. I think this event may be full by now.

If it's full, expect a big black GTO to come snarling it's way around the track at a future event instead of this one.

After learning to drive in the canyons and back roads of Northern California, Houston's dismal concrete, 90 degree turns, and oblivious traffic are getting very, very old. I noticed that Harris Hill does motorcycles too, that's another thing I'll have to try out there...

Thanks for the welcome folks, nice to know there are other folks around here interested in something other than drag racing and big spoilers...
