Next for us is ECR on Oct 24th, then about a 90% chance will make this one too.

New part is fun! I can never carry enough speed through it to even get close to going off. It's the high speed portions that I normally go off in if anything. Last spin at Cresson was a long long time ago though.
Rick said he's going to try and run the 3.1, but doesn't think he will have the numbers so more than likely it will be the 1.7. I'm hoping for CW, been a bit since I ran that direction. |

I will be there! I hope it is the whole track too. We ran MSR CW a week ago with APEX. I forgot how much I love that track that direction. Too bad I was injured and couldnt drive. I did have two students that both did really well though.

So, question #1: What group would I be in? My experience: Skip Barber 3 and 2 day racing schools, NASA 944spec racing, 5+ years HPDE, including some laps at H2R (ask Chotto.)
Question #2: What hotels are available near the track? Right now, it looks like I can make it, so I'm tentatively planning on it.

That's cool. I'd rather start in a slower group and get moved up, instead of the other way around.

from the sounds of it, you are a good enough driver to be in the advanced "red" group but either yellow or red is fine, you don't want to be in green or blue for sure, but there are some screaming fast cars that come out in the red group and in the little lotus on a new track getting caught up in a pack of crazies with 700 hp corvettes on hoosiers can be a bit tiresome, I go and drive for fun and I'm comfortable with my skills so I usually let Rick put me in yellow or red - whatever is less full - and don't worry about my lap times
and there are plenty of hotels around - motel 6 in bendbrook that a lot of people stay at and a new, I believe, Best Western, right across the street I really like the drivers edge, I think they put on a nice event

I vote Best Western for hotel. It is way nicer than the motel 6 in benbrook. Plus it's not a 20min drive to the track in the mornings. More like 2.
Probably want to book a room early though so it doesn't fill up. They also have 8 or so truck/trailer spots in their lot for those that don't go up early and drop their cars off on Friday. You should be fine in red or yellow. I am still in yellow myself, but really don't have a desire to move up. They will move me when they want to. I'm there to have fun, not set lap records anyway. Only down side is all the other Lotus guys are up in red or instructors so I have to pick on the porche and z06 guys. The yellow drivers are pretty aware, I don't often get caught up in the trains like you sometimes do in blue. TDE runs a great event, it's very organized and focused very much on safety and getting the most track time for everyone. |
