British By The Sea Car Show June 7th

Here is the link: British by the Sea 2008

The feature Marque this year is Lotus.

This is a great show, and it makes for a nice ride down to CT for the day. No traffic on Rte 395 out of Worchester.

A nice relaxing show with plenty of room, cars parked on the lawn.

Always a very warm welcome to Lotus Owners and their cars.

This years date falls on the same day as British Car day @ Larz Anderson. I'd rather go to CT, and if your interested in doing something different this year I suggest you check it out.

I'm planning on going.

I grew up in CT and spent my summers at Harkness. It's a beautiful park, with a beautiful purpose:

Half of the park is set aside for the benefit of people with special needs. Wheelchair-accessible cabins, beach access and other camping facilities have allowed families and children of all capabilities to enjoy Long Island Sound amid gorgeous estate surroundings for at least the last 50 years.

Since my father was afflicted with polio, he was eligible to enter this part of the park. Our family spent many summer days at the beach there.

I'm open to meeting up with whoever is interested and caravaning down. With a little effort, I suspect we can find an interesting meal and some good roads back north.

A couple of ideas for the route back, depending on how long we want the day to last:

If memory serves me right, not too far from the park is Michael's Dairy, Roadfood Digest | Ice Cream Stop #36 - Michael's Dairy, New London, CTan ice cream shop in the middle of Mitchell College.

From Waterford/New London it's only 20 minutes across the Thames River and on to Mystic. It's been a while since I was last there, but it's a quaint New England costal town. The main drag is crowded, so parking might be an issue, but we should be able to get a meal. From there we can head towards Old Mystic and pick up 201 to Jewett City State Route 201, Connecticut. From there, rt 169 basically follows 395 up into MA.State Route 169, Connecticut. I'm not as familiar with that part of MA, so I'd be open to ideas that avoid another couple hours on the Mass Pike/290/495.

Anybody open for B-fast early Sunday morning?

Hi...My first post...just joined...

I was thinking of going to the CT event that day too...I'm game to meet up with anyone for the drive down.

I'm near pike/495 but would rather a more interesting route down--so I'm game.

Hi Rich, welcome to the forum.

I'm all for avoiding the interstate in both directions. I'll piece something together with suggestions from this thread and let's see what we end up with.

I'm Game

Sounds like a good time. Please let me know details of the meet for the drive down. Anywhere along 495 is good for me. Shawn, Jeff, assume you will be coming that way.

It's turning into quite an event. I added an attendance list up top.

We drove 169 when we went to Gillette Castle. That's a nice route.

Maybe there's a good breakfast/meeting location around Millbury, MA where we could congregate then take back roads like 169 from there.

Puffin's is near the commuter lot off the Mass Pike. Those who want breakfast could meet there. Then we could meet up with everyone else at the lot around 7:30? (Backroads are about 2.5 hours to Waterford, or we could show a little late?)

The route from there might be something like this?

from: 95 Main St, Millbury, MA 01527 (Puffin - Google Maps

I'm all for avoiding 495/pike to get to millbury but a lot of people are coming from different directions until that point.

I don't know the area so I'm going with your recommendation(s). The show opens at 10am so if we get there around 11am there shouldn't be a problem. I don't mind taking secondary roads, would rather not get caught up in a lot of stop and go traffic. I can meet for breakfast.

I don't remember there being much traffic in that area, but the route hugs the highway. If we're running late or hit traffic we can always jump on the interstate.

Guys!!!

Have a great time. I will miss joining you all.
Due to some commitments I need to stay closer to the house front but will most probably try to make it to Larz Anderson (never been there before) this time.

Take a lot of pics and see you all soon.

There's never any traffic on 395. I've taken that route back from CT several times over the last 6 months and have never had any trouble.

The only issue to be prepared for is that it's very heavily patrolled. I've ALWAYS seen at least one car pulled over in CT.

I can meet for breakfast.

Sadly, it looks like I'm not going to make this one.

Got to bring my 7 year old to a birthday party for his friend from school. He loves these things, so I couldn't ask him to miss it. Hopefully I'll make the next one. Best of luck to all !!

Hi Shawn, Puffin's is a great little breakfast place!! Small, and a small parking lot, but as long as your all there early you should be OK, anything after 9:30 and it really starts to get busy there!! There are only about a dozen small tables.

I am still in the air about going, My mom is going in for open heart surgery tomorrow (Wednesday) and not sure what I can do. If you all do go for breakfast, I will for sure meet you. We'll see...

BTW- Sunday looks to be in the high 70's!!

Woulds Mrs. Macks be a better choice for parking and to avoid getting stuck in a wait for a table?
