LEO Event: Catskill Spirited Drive, Aug.16th

The Lotus Enthusiast's Organization is conducting it's August road event on Sunday, August 16. It's a Spirited Drive through the Catskills.

This is a real corker, with plenty of twisty roads and scenic views in the best Lotus driving tradition. Just what you need to get the HEAT into your tires! The route was planned by EZMoney.

The Start is at the parking lot of the True Value Hardware Store, 2412 Rt. 52, in Pine Bush, NY. (Just in case anything has fallen off your Lotus on the way there!) Don’t worry: there are gas stations, coffee shops, and restrooms around too, in case you have any other needs. Be There at 10:00 AM, our departure time will be 10:30 AM. (Early arrivals may join us at the Cup and Saucers Diner nearby at 82 Boniface Drive, just half a mile from True Value.)

The Drive winds its way though Catskill Mountains Park before terminating about 2:00 PM at the Mountain Brauhaus Restaurant, 3123 Route 44/55, in Gardiner, NY at the intersection of Rt 44/55 and Rt 299. That is close to the New Paltz exit of the NYS Thruway. Mountain Brauhaus Restaurant

As an additional added treat, we plan to stop at the country home of Rijk Rielveld. Not only does he have working restroom facilities, but he has a Spyker and Ferrari as well (just so you can see how the other half lives).

Feel free to join us at the Brauhaus if your time is limited. Please call me (Atwell) by Thursday 8/13 at 201-852-9742 or at carbuff AT lotusowners.com so we can alert the restaurant with a headcount.

I hope to make this one. I'll let you know a little later on. I suppose to be camping that weekend, but I hope to leave early Sunday morning for this drive.

My car is in bits and working to get it back together in time for Sunday. No brakes, no electrics and an owner with (mostly) no idea. Amazing what "fun" a car can be. My plan is to make the drive.

So, bring your tin-top Daily Driver!

Weather is supposed to be superb!

Edit: we have over ten cars signed up for the drive. Last-minute participants welcomed!

Believe it or not, I actually only have the Caterham. I do not have a tin-top daily driver.

Bit fresh in winter tho!

Car is back together and ran late last night. Still got some oil weeping from the oil pressure/temp gauge under the dash. Bunch of jobs to take care of today plus clean it up to look pretty for you all. Looking good for tomorrow.

OK Mike!!!!

Anyone who comes should bring an FRS radio (walkie-talkie) if you have one.

I'll be aiming to arrive at the Cups & Saucers Diner in Pine Bush @ 9 AM

I may stop by and say hello at the Mt Brauhaus, as I live in the area. Or I might mow the lawn. The food there is pretty good but the grass is pretty long so its a hard choice.

If you don`t fill up there head over to the Ultster County Fair grounds for the Rib Fest, I think it is running until around 5pm.

SHOW UP at the Brauhaus! The grass is probably too damp to cut. You don't want to mess up your lawnmower do you?

My lawn is too damp to cut. I'm sure. Yeah, I'm positive. (I always water it first to make sure.)

Smile Great Day, Great Drive, Great Company

To everyone - Thank you for a great day. The routing was excellent - I would not mind repeating it again one day.

I took a few pics - not easy when you are driving with spirit!

Pity I cannot post a soundtrack of the white Europa - what an awesome engine noise even from the back of the convoy!
