I drove by him on 89 and gave him a big thumbs-up. He certainly deserved it!
Tom- That's a story in itself. The last pass and then some...Rte 73 to Rte 100 to Rte 107.

Were pulling out of town and there are 3 cars in front of me. Within' 2 miles two of the cars break off and we are left with a Toyota Corolla hatchback in the lead. I say to Vicky (wife) we may have a slow poke in front of us. Well he was bound and determined not to slow us down. We went over most of that pass at 60-70 mph. Wife looks over at my dash and the coolant light is flickering off and on. Old problem, but means I'm down a cup on water. She says something wrong? no just need a little water in the coolant tank. But that smell you smell is the Catalytic Converter on the Toyota Corolla in front of us... OH that's OK then

Anyway keep in mind we are doing Rte 100 North to South. Shawn might know the spot ... Stop sign, farm on right. Right hand turn over Steel Bridge, sharp turn left (crossing river). Corolla goes straight we go right to stay on Rte 100. We complete the next leg and pick up Rte 107 toward Rte 89 and who do we see? there is the Toyota again right smack in front of me. His short cut didn't work out. Then again he probably needed a break...

Sorry for the novel about a Toyota Corolla wife said most of the day it felt like we were traveling alone. Being the lead car with a very small rear view mirror can do that to you.

Sounds like it was a bast. I'm making it a point not to miss that drive next time. Hopefully the 924s is road worthy this upcoming summer so i'm not defendant on friend's and family's cars.

The weather was perfect, traffic was pretty light, and that little hatchback could boogie!
Extra thanks to Jeff for putting together another fabulous NELLI event.
Great cars, great roads, great weather and most of all, great people.

Hope to see you all again before the driving season ends.

Yep, it ended up being perfect. Nice pics, too.

On the second (I think) leg of the trip, I was at the back of the line. There was like a little Ford Focus or something keeping up with us. It was pretty funny... I'm not sure if that's the same hatchback you're talking about, but he did great through the twisties.

I know that spot and shortcut. The Corolla took Blackmer blvd. which is about 1 mile shorter than 3.8 miles you get taking 100 to 107E. I usually take Blackmer if I'm headed to 107E from 100S myself. Funny, that you caught up to him again since Blackmer should have gained a lot of ground for the Corolla.

Sorry I missed it guys...had Nephew and Mother birthday obligations. Sounds like a blast and I really hope we can set something else up before the weather turns. Should have another 3-4 weeks of good foliage.

I had a similar experience to your Corolla. I was taking some nice twisties from Goffstown up to Bow and pulled in behind a Honda Insight. Naturally I thought my fun was over. As soon as he notice me, he hit it and damn if he wasn't holding 60 mph the whole way...I was quite impressed.

Also, I've been really lucky lately with people pulling over to let me by...maybe I've become a tailgating a-hole and don't realize it?

Tom- I am sure we are going to do at least one more run before the snow flyes. Any ideas?

Maybe something in the Conway direction? Hurricane Mountain Road is supposed to be pretty sweet.

Not that we can't do it again, but we drove Hurricane Mt. Rd. the past two years. Traffic is fairly thick around that area this time of year as well, although I've become proficient at avoiding the jams.

I had proposed the following route for this year, but apparently posted the wrong map in the other thread. It's a little closer which may attract some more participants.

from:Foster St to:RT-118 to:RT-112 to:Chase Hill Rd to:43.908777,-71.330795 to:Riverside Dr/RT-25/US-3 - Google Maps

Ahh, that would be a perfect route. I came from Lake Winona to start the last drive, which is on that map. So, when do we go?

We could elaborate on it:

Breakfast at Polly's:
from:Unknown road to:RT-118 to:Easton Valley Rd/RT-116 to:672 Sugar HIll Rd (Route 117), Sugar Hill, NH 03586 (Polly's Pancake Parlor, Inc) to:44.170385,-71.954956 to:RT-112 to:Hurley Cor to:Chase Rd/RT-113A to:60 S Main St, Ashland, NH 03217 (Co

Lunch at Moat Mt. (They're probably expecting us! At which point we could snag Hurricane Mt. Road as well.)
from:Unknown road to:RT-118 to:RT-112 to:W Side Rd to:43.968851,-71.179562 to:Chinook Trail/RT-113A to:60 S Main St, Ashland, NH 03217 (Common Man Restaurant, NH) - Google Maps

Routes are from Hooksett rest area.

Hah, The Common Man. I eat there all the time. Great little bar upstairs with couches and Trivial Persuit. All of those route variations look great.

As long as I can get breakfast at Polly's house I'm in...

My request is we get to Polly by 9am... and she says foliage is over after Oct 4 most times.

Saturday, Sunday, or a weekday?

Looks awesome. Unfortunately, the next two weekends are out. Any chance of doing it the weekend of the 12th? Colors should still be pretty good: weather.com - Map Room - Satellite Map, Weather Map, Doppler Radar Northeast US Normal Fall Peaks

It's all up to "Keeper" and when he is available.

Me, I have visions of going on a weekday...or after the leaves are off the trees and the roads are empty.

First of all: Amanda was born this morning at 2:05am. 7lbs 7oz. Less than 3.5 hours from first indication of labor to birth. Good thing I didn't risk lunch in Bristol, VT. I never would have made it back in time had she decided to come then.

Second: I have to make the next one, so Sundays are out.

I'll start a poll for weekday vs. Saturday. If we can get enough weekday attendees I suggest we do that. A lot of these roads are empty on weekdays. I know Jeff, Fred, and I can do weekdays so that's a good start.

We will stop at Polly's. I haven't been there in the Lotus since I bought it, so I like that idea. I'll add some poll options to include Hurricane Mt. Road, Moat Mt. Brewery, Dinner (Common Man).
