Need romantic ideas for NYC

My wife and I are going on a long weekend to NYC in mid June and I'm looking for some ideas for romantic things to do. We've been to NYC before and have already done the carriage ride through the park and have been to the top of the Empire State building at night.

What about a night time boat ride around the island?

Any nice little romantic restaurants?

Helicopter ride up/down the Hudson at night is pretty cool.

Cruse & dinner around Manhattan island, I was on this cruse once & it was fun:

New York and New Jersey Dining Cruises | Spirit Cruises

Chinatown & Little Italy are always great eats... They are right next to each other which is nice:

Chinatown-online.com

Little Italy NYC - The Official Website for New York City's Little Italy District

Soho is nice window shopping for art if that's interesting to you or the wife..

SoHo NYC - Shop, Find Restaurants, Stores & Hotels More in SoHo, New York, USA

Hope that helps a little, enjoy!!!

New York Waterways has a 2-Hour City Nights Party Cruise, and a 90-Minute City Lights Cruise. They may also have a dinner cruise. The city is awesome at night viewed from the water, especially since you can relax and not fight the traffic.

NY Harbor Cruises

In addition to Mao's suggestions for dinner Tribeca has some really great restaurants.

www.vigilantenighttours.com offers real live vigilante tours. You are escorted around dark back alleys in an urban assault/armored Hummer. Your choice of weapons, and unlimited ammo is provided. If you bag more than 10, your cost is reduced by 50 % ( subsidized by NYPD )

There are a million incredible places to eat in NYC (many are romantic as well.).

One of the popular, noted romantic places is called Candella. All exposed brick interior, and the entire place is lit with candles, no electric lights (at east in the dining area). I've been there with the wife for an anniversary....it was good.

Here's a romantic night you will never forget......

Take the subway out to the bronx.....get out and walk around in some really seedy neighborhoods.....run in to some "gang bangers".

Next run for your life, as the hoods chase you through Manhattan and into Brooklyn.......(a la the movie "WARRIORS").

Talk about something both of you will remember for the rest of your lives (if you live, that is).

The carrige ride, boat ride crap is BORING.....try running for your life ! (very romantic and thrilling !)

My wife and I searched for a wino lying in the gutter with a bottle wrapped in a paper bag. We finally found one in the Bowery.

The old NY is slipping away but you can still find it if you look hard enough.

I don't know what your wife finds romantic...but if she has a sense of humor I would suggest Katz Deli in Soho. They are famous for their pastrami but what makes this romantic is that this is the place where that famous scene in "When Harry Met Sally" that Meg Ryan got so excited with was filmed. They even have a sign above that very table. Not your typical romantic but it is fun and different - and you will LOVE the pastrami.

As far as I remember, a romantic night in NYC was usually and eight-ball and a threeway.

+1 on Katz btw.

Grand Central Terminal / station and Penn Station very late at night are likely spots to find bums a/k/a winos a/k/a homeless people.

The bowery neighborhood has changed. Fewer alcoholics / winos, more drug addicts. According to the New York Times, there are no gin joints (whatever they are) left around there.

Not sure about your budget, but for my wife's birthday I rented a suite at the Plaza. Had the chef come up and make us a personalized meal and we were served in the suite. Also did there afternoon tea and did some shopping and saw a show. When all was said and done I think it cost around 5K but she said it was the best birthday present I ever gave her.

For Italian food go to Rao's in East Harlem. Be warned though it might be tough getting in. There is typically a 6-12 month wait on a reservation. You may get lucky and get a cancellation.

Rao's Restaurant, New York

J thought of another one across the river in Hoboken. Usually a line out the door. Arthur's Tavern unbeleivable steaks and HUGE (24 or 48 oz) They call the 48 oz a "steak" but I'd call it a roast!

That's setting the bar pretty high, what do you do for the next birthday?

Not sure yet, but that one was her 40th. For her 39th, I rented the Tappan Hill in Tarrytown, and had a surprise party for her and invited all our friends and family.
