from:US-2 @44.296764, -72.686011 to:Lincoln Rd @44.127339, -73.046085 to:VT-100 @44.003478, -72.850316 to:Court St/US-7/VT-125 @44.010080, -73.163010 to:Lake Dunmore Rd/VT-53 @43.909063, -73.066454 to:VT-107 @43.824750, -72.583450 - Google Maps

There is some dirt on this route but only Lincoln Gap IIRC. It is a problem with some roads in Vermont. It's much less of an issue in NH. You could plan around it. If you do it let us know.

Shawn- I'm thinking of doing this Route. I would like to avoid Dirt Roads, so I could use your help to plan around that. Not sure what your source is ...Last year I was using "Trails" but my subscription ran out.

From Chesterfield, NH (overnight for NJ/NY/CT people) we could pick up RTE 100 close by and head North, or we could jump on Rte 91 to Rte 89 and get off close to this planned Route. Get to the meat of the Trip sooner (still an hour and 15 minutes up the Highway.

As it is from Chesterfield, NH... Up the Intersate, through the mountain passes, up Rte 100 and out to Rte 89 it's a 5 hour trip. Add an hour for lunch that gets from say 10 am to 4pm. Then the 3 hour trip home (you and I).

We could start out earlier 9am from Chesterfield, NH and finish up earlier in the day. If we start out early and do a late lunch (2pm) , then people can take as long as they want at lunch. Just have to plan a Gas stop/bathroom/snack break ...about half way.

The other thought is to get on Rte 89 and go all the way up to Middlesex, VT and do the trip South. Might be less traffic on the South side.

Feedback again please.

I had planned on doing the route North to South. In addition to hopefully avoiding some traffic, you hit Rt 17 early and that's the best road up there.

I usually scan the motorcycle boards for info on routes I'm considering, particularly pavement condition since that changes from year to year.

Rt 17 / Rt 125 Review:
Route 17 - MAD RIVER GLEN: Vermont Motorcycle Rides

I've driven both these roads and they're great. We drove 17 on the Bove's run so you know that one. I used to drive 125 often, before the Dog Team Tavern burned down.

The following rates most of the roads:
Vermont Sport Bike Roads 2

To avoid dirt, you would have to skip Lincoln Gap. I added it to allow the transits to start east and finish east. I had planned on driving it in advance to see what the condition was like and had considering driving 17 in both directions if it was a problem. The rest of the roads should be fine since they're numbered routes.

If you want to pre-drive the final route let me know. Fred would join us, I'm sure.

Here's a modified version that skips Lincoln Gap and Middlebury, VT. Point B is Snap's restaurant in Bristol, VT. They should be open for lunch and are supposed to be fairly good, but I haven't been. I have no idea what the parking is like.

from:US-2 @44.296764, -72.686011 to:24 Main St. Bristol, VT to:43rd Infantry Division Memorial Hwy/Main St/VT-100 @44.165195, -72.832249 to:Court St/US-7 @43.960100, -73.116777 to:Lake Dunmore Rd/VT-53 @43.909063, -73.066454 to:VT-107 @43.824750, -72

Looking around in Bristol I found good reviews on a place called The Bobcat Cafe Link Bobcat Cafe and Brewery #5 Main Street in beautiful Bristol Vermont, Gateway to the Green Mountains.

I sent them an e-mail asking about parking.

Good idea. Should be around lunch time when we get to Bristol and give us a break before we head back on Rte 17

Ok no problem we can eat at Snap's then. Right next door to the Bobcat. There is a common in town where we can park the cars.

By the way I saw Fred on Rte 95 South of the Hampton Tolls, so he's go his car back. Had the Top off white hair flying in the wind on the outside lane.

Don't think he saw me on the other side.

Thanks!

Sounds interesting. If time permits, I'd join, but it's not entirely what I look for in a long driving event. I like to minimize interstate time and maximize twisty time. (Typical Elige owner.) Take the route they have planned:

from:US-4 @43.638066, -72.410418 to:44.036763,-71.676822 to:Weymouth Rd @43.923420, -70.343730 to:43.916938,-70.289154 to:End @43.74910655118204,-69.99209135770798 - Google Maps

There a lot of interstate getting to and from there, but no clear reason why. Take a look at this route:

from:RT-25 E/RT-3A N toartmouth College Rd/NH Route 10 to:44.036763,-71.676822 to:Weymouth Rd @43.923420, -70.343730 to:Morse Rd to:End @43.74910655118204,-69.99209135770798 - Google Maps

Basically, the same roads with much less too/from interstate and more scenic backroads.

Take it a step further and you can include Rt 118 which is Elige nirvanna, although a little bumpier than 112.

from:RT-25 E/RT-3A N toartmouth College Rd/NH Route 10 to:43.935484,-71.921997 to:44.036763,-71.676822 to:Weymouth Rd @43.923420, -70.343730 to:Morse Rd to:End @43.74910655118204,-69.99209135770798 - Google Maps
