Orlando Neighborhood Relocation Question

My family will likely be relocating to Orlando in the future. We are looking for recommendations on which neighborhoods we should look in.

We have 2 school aged children. A well rated public school would be nice, but a good private school nearby is fine as well. My wife will be working downtown and in Winter Park, and I will most likely be working at the new Medical City. We would like our commutes to be < 20 minutes.

I have family in Longwood, and my wife has family in downtown Orlando, so it would be nice to be relatively nearby.

We would like ~ 4-5,000 square feet, on a lake would be nice. Close to restaurants, shopping, etc. would also be great.

Thanks for any info.

Less than 20 minute commute? In Orlando? Have you ever driven there?

With what you're asking for, I'd start in looking near downtown winter park.
It's high dollars, around $200-250/sqft but you didn't specify your price range.
Prices are still falling, so you may strike a good deal.
Maitland would also work out well for you, too. If you want cheaper, your going to have to commute.

Thanks. We drove through downtown Winter Park and really liked the area around Rollins College. I'll also check out Maitland. Are the schools around there decent?

While we were there, someone also mentioned Baldwin Park. Any opinions?

Ian - Feel free to PM me your contact info, I bought my 1922 bungalow in a Historic District in Downtown Orlando back in 1995 and am just blocks away from some very good schools - Winter Park is also very nice and it really depends on your style of living. A good majority of my contacts are in the Real Estate industry.

Baldwin park looks like a Movie Set It is reclaimed land from the old Naval base and all of the construction is new which in my opinion is not a good thing! I am a General Contractor and have several friends who built there, It is interesting to say the least.

If you choose to put your kids in public school, Seminole County is known as the best district in Central Florida.
This would include the Longwood area in which you already have family, as well as Winter Springs, Oviedo, Lake Mary, Heathrow, etc.

Where ever you choose there are plently of good deals out there.
If I didn't have a house to sell, I'd be looking to buy...

The Winter Park area schools should prove well for you...especially if you will be living in/near Winter Park. I went to Winter Park High School which is one of the best in Central Florida. Maitland Middle School and Glenridge Middle School are both well regarded (the new Glendridge M.S. is IN Baldwin Park). Check out the OCPS webiste: www.ocps.net

I will soon have a house for sale on the market near the airport... 1.4 acres, 4,950 sq feet, 4 bedroom, 3.5 baths, over-sized 4-car garage, pool, watefront, Exclusive gated country club community, home to many golf pros, 5 minutes to the airport, brand new school...

I can get to downtown in 20 minutes (the back way), and it's about a 30 minute drive to Longwood via the 417.

$2.3 million
