Driving weather!?
any of you Chicago guys planning to take the Lotus out tomorrow? I've been inspecting and I'm pretty sure that torrential downpour took care of the salt
![]() I was testing traction with my DD and I'm pretty sure that if the roads dry up just a bit more and no more rain comes that I'll be taking her out tomorrow early afternoon. Anyone else gonna be doing the same? I'm not trying to organize anything here, i'm just curious if I'm crazy for thinking this is too perfect to pass up. |

Cmon Alex - you know I am!!!
I was driving today too! We've had salt (not even that much dropped) what, twice this winter? Combine the 6 hours of solid rain yesterday and good to go! If you're a bit worried, go to West Marine (there's on on Rand Rd in Arl Hts) and get some Salt Away. They sell it in a spray bottle. Drive your car and on the way home, hit one of those self wash places. Go in the bay, drop in a few quarters and use the spray to get under the car and in the wheel wells. Before you put it away, spray the Salt Away in all the same spots. Good to go! I have a bunch of errands to run and have to take one son to karate and then another to basketball and I'll be in full Lotus mode! Then back in the storage garage tomorrow night - 27 degrees on Sunday! Drive it! Drove mine today and on my GForce tires, stuck just fine.

Thanks, Jeff, I knew I could count on you haha ill be out and about, for sure, and ill grab some of that stuff for the salt.
I also ordered some optimum no rinse to try, too. Though a self wash does seem like the better option. I'm pumped! |

Also, get some SMARTONE - it's a waterless wash/wax that works amazing and smells fantastic. The Salt Away is only available at West Marine locally (like $12 a spray bottle). I bought some there this week - they have it. Here's my self wash trick: - Bring a couple microfiber towels - the blue waffle weave 'Ice' ones you get at Meijer are the best. Wash the car, blow off (see below), finish up with microfiber. Takes a total of 6 minutes. The one by my house takes credit cards - so it's about 4 min total washing unit on and about $3.50. Then about two minute to dry off. If you really wanna get fancy, get one of these - Makita portable 18v rechargeable blower. It's small and light. Throw it in the car when you go the wash place and it helps blow off about 70% of the water - especially in the nooks and crannies (tail lights, seams, wheels). Makes drying with towel a 60 second job. I can literally wash my car at the self wash place for $4 and 6 minutes!

I went out for a spin. No salt on the road anywhere. Sun was out here and there. Overall, not bad for early January. 7/10.

Drove it all day on Saturday after my Jenny McCarthy encounter. Ran a few errands, hit up the amazing Real Urban BBQ in Highland Park and the 'Ravines' on Sheridan Rd in Wilmette. Short run and not fast, but soooo fun.
Put it back in storage later in the day. Took the Jeep when I went out to watch Green Bay get destroyed (yeah!) and watched some lame cover band. Went out to the Jeep after we left the bar and it was covered in ice. Gotta love Chicago weather!

Yeah, didn't want to wait and there's a West Marine right down the street from my office.
Thanks though.
