Minneapolis MN Cars & Cafe, Saturday May 2nd 8am-11am

Hey guys,

It's that time of the month again. Despite the cold 35 degree day we had at the beggining of April, the Minneapolis folks showed up by the truckloads (Literally). We had another 200+ car attendance and the month of May promises to have better weather and more fun for all involved. Our event is from 8am-11am. We will be leaving at 11am sharp to go check out Imola Motorsports's new location in Golden Valley. There will be food and drink at the event as well.

Location:
The location is the Minneapolis AutoMotorplex located at:
1740 Motorplex Ct. Chanhassen MN (About 10 minutes away from the old location)
Please check out the Motorplex’s website for map and other details: AutoMotorPlex - MPLS
For people traveling east of 494 we would encourage you to take the Crosstown (62) extension (HWY 5) the where it becomes 212, exit on Powers Blvd (Which is 1 exit past 101) go right, drive approx 500 ft and turn left on Lyman (at the light) travel approximately 1 mile, turn right on Audubon and we will be 1.1 mile on the left.

Please mark your calendars with the following dates:

June 6th
July 4th
August 1st
September 5th
October 3rd

Here are some pics from last month's event: (Thanks Alex)

I was planning on being there, but Murphy's law has struck once again. I thought I could get my new seats installed on Friday night. Here it is Saturday night and I haven't even got one in yet. About 10 hours of frustration.

What a great day! Looks like we have outgrown yet another location.

Thanks to all of you that made it out. I lost count at around 350 cars, but I know there were many more there.

Imola was great afterwards, thanks to Kevin and Jody for making that happen!

Stay tuned for a thread on our June 6th event!

Does anyone really believe that you can assemble a collection of cars and enthusiasts like this and not have law enforcement standing by?

I predict that this won't last until October. I was swapping cars with my nanny for the day on Audobon Rd. by the exit (her anniversary present for her husband). The number of obscenities hurled at us for pulling over on the drag strip was staggering.

This element is going to be the downfall of this event. The AutoMotoroPlex facility may want to consider reigning it in, since they have to do business in the neighborhood. Between this and the (briefly available) video of the last one, the end is near.

I was walking up the hill back to the parking lot to leave, saw the gathered spectators, and had no idea what was going on. I had not been to that location before, and yes, I guess I am that naive. Didn't take long to figure it out.

I agree with you ... drivers of high-performance cars wanting to show off for a crowd of people for a half-hour as everyone filters out ... hmmm ... sounds like a good way to bust a lot of people easily. From what I saw, the fun continued well past the dragstrip. When does the venue cease being the venue or the cause of the problem?

I didn't see much housing near the AutoMotorPlex, just a lot of business parks which aren't busy on Saturday (not that I am defending the driving behavior). If most of the people who attend aren't going overboard, is it a better idea to bust those who do or shut the whole thing down?

As an aside, was looking up the code for Reckless Driving (169.13, which is what I assume the issue is) and came across 169.39 (coasting down a hill in neutral). That's a good one. "Implement of Husbandry" is another good one -- my wife got busted for being married, or maybe because I'm a tool?

(yeah I know it's for farming equip)
