Salt in Chicago area?

Took the Lotus into FVMC for some service this morning - they hadn't salted I-290 yet. Anyone know if they've put down salt today on I-290 or the major Chicago streets? I'll have to ask FVMC to trailer it back to me if they have...

In related news, people should learn to drive instead of relying on salt.

There is a lot of comfort driving a rusty Jeep with 200,000 miles under these conditions. If the car gets damaged in an accident, I don't care.

Yeah, but then you're driving a rusty Jeep with 200,000 miles.

Don't take your car up North in the Lake County Area, they have salted up there. I heard the crunch of new salt pellets under the tires of my 4Runner this morning. Last time I was out with my Lotus I thought I better gas it up 'just in case' it was the last drive this year. I guess I was right.

Ugh. I think you guys got more snow up on the northwest side, right? Guess I'll risk it and just hose her down if the roads are really bad...

"Salt Away", sold at marine supply stores, not the "few good men" kind.

I hook it up to a hose, spray, neutralizes the salt, got good results

I walked around on damen and division today, didn't see salt. Hmmm. I was hoping to sneak one more drive in before they salted. :-(

Drove from FVMC south to I-55 and back up to the city - didn't see (or hear) any salt. I'm assuming it's okay.

The further north you went, the worse it got. McHenry got the most, I believe.

So it's snowing in Chicago now? Bummer. I was there last weekend for dinner and it was dry and the roads were clean. Would have loved to have seen snow before year end.

No, no real snow yet.....maybe an inch about 40 miles NW of the city. You didn't miss anything.

2 Sundays ago I had a bad feeling that it might be my last drive for the year so I filled my tank just before I came home. I too was hoping to get another drive or two in.

Forecast says possibly up to 9 inches of snow in Lake County, IL.

Time to change the oil, give it a detail, overinflate the tires, hookup the Battery Tender and throw a cover on the Elise.

Yup, same routine here--Lake County definitely is full of salt now. Stabil's in the gas tank, and the Tender is on for the duration.

My wife and I took the Elise up to Milwaukee for lunch yesterday and I gassed her up and put the Stabil in on the way home. We still haven't gotten any snow here in Racine, but it looks to be starting this evening. The salt is gonna fly and the season is over. I usually hope to make it to our anniversary at the end of November, so I'm pretty happy with making it to December 7th. Now we all can begin hoping and praying for an early spring .

I thought about that when you posted about your new purchase--"it'll never get through the break-in period before the bad weather hits." Well, you're halfway there--those miles will melt off almost immediately after the snow.

In the mean time you'll have to content yourself with staring at it in the garage.

I bought my current Elise two days after Thanksgiving last year. I drove it home. The next day the snow flew. The salt dropped was dropped and stayed.
