Fall pilgrimige to Tail of the Dragon...

I am planning a trip to Tail of the Dragon the weekend of October 15, 16, 17, 18 , planning to leave a.m. early Thurs 15th and depart N.C. Sunday 18th -please join me if you can!
Route 129 -obviously a fantastic road for the Lotus, but there are MANY other nearby routes just as good -and right in the middle of Great Smokey mountains Park, foliage should be great as well! This will be my third trip down there and I can,t stop thinking about those awesome driving roads in and around the mountains and resevoirs -fantastic! I checked out Killboy .com and looks like a Speedster gathering at that time as well -cool to see. If you like driving GREAT twisties , beautiful scenery, Carolina BBQ -and for me a few days away from the office -come along. MARK

Everyone talks about this run like it's a freakin' death trap. When I went to SC for a DSM/EVO meet, nobody wanted to go. I was all like "yeah let's do it!!!"

I have been going up there since 2003… Too many times to count… Mid week is low traffic and weekends are usually busy… The THP are there in volumes the last few years… Each year there seems to me be more and more… They usually head out late in the evening, which is a great time to rail through (low traffic)…

We have been going to Suches, GA. There is a great “loop” you can rail on, but the pavement is rougher…

But I may be heading up to Deal’s Saturday… I do like the road, just not the traffic and THP…

Whoops -actually it is Robbinsville and it is the Microtel that I stayed at. The Hellbender is the very winding back way to Robbinsville from Fontana.

Euro Auto Festival

Getting prepared for the Euro Auto Festival.

Eruo Auto Festival
BMW Zentrum Greer, SC
October 16-18

On the great lawn of the BWM Zentrum (factory) just north of Greenville, SC in Greer, SC... seconds off of I-85

Euro Auto Festival

There is usually a good turnout of the odd and exotic. This year is celebrating:

100 years of Morgan
50 years of Mini
20 years of the BMW 8 series (well, it is the BMW factory)

I see a bit of buzz on BMW, Ferrai, Volvo, VW ... sites

Besides the show there is supposed to be a bunch of performance driving on the BMW track. I did this a few years ago and it was great. Supposedly this years events are:

Driving 335s or 650 (TBD) through a coned autocross course that combines normal dry asphalt with a wet polished concrete surface.

Drive an M5, around a large road course.

Drive the all new 335 around a road course
and try to post your best lap time.

X5 or X3 on off road course

Driving the M3 6spd or 335 Steptronic, you will race your opponent around a course to see who gets back to the finish line first.
