05 Elise for $45K - Too Much?

Am considering my first Lotus but the only 'deal' around is a used 2005 Elise with ~2,000 miles on it, hard top, comfort package, star shield for $45,000. Seems like quite a bit for a used one. They have three 2005's all around this price and their 2006's are into th3 $60k's.

Thoughts?

Also, I've read that the air conditioning is really poor and there are other issues surrounding the first run 2005's. How can I tell if this is a first run 2005?

Much appreciated...

I have a first run 2005 and have not had any issues with the car. It has been perfect. Just look at the VIN and to see how early it was made.

Two weeks ago I picked up a new '06 for less. Same options you have listed. Some dealers will deal, others will not. If you're willing to travel a little, you can save a lot.

Be patient....You should be able to find a great one for about $10k less. See E-Bay and search the threads here. An earlier 05 will have twin oil coolers. Try these posts.... Great cars! http://www.elisetalk.com/forums/show...highlight=sale

I paid more for a brand new one, as I wanted to make sure that no one had abused mine prior to me getting it.

I'm sure there are some well cared for used ones out there, I didn't want to deal with it and just paid more YMMV.

Back in March when I bought my used 05 there was a dealer from Miami selling new 05s on Ebay with all the options you listed for 41K. He'd deliver it for another 1K. Any 05 used should be had somewhere in the 30s.

45k for a used 05 is way too much. Shop around. You will be able to find better deals. Check Lotus of Bedford (Ohio). Two months ago they had a yellow 05 with 600 miles (touring but no hardtop) for $36k. Good luck

My 2005 had an msrp of about 52.5k. I got it in February with no demo miles for 46k. You can do better now.

Shop, shop, shop. Check out www.lotusofjacksonville.com and see if they have anything you like in a new 2006.

I payed slighty less than that for a new (30 miles on it) 2005 in december of 2005. The car had the LSS, hard top, lifestyle paint and starshield. $45 is way to much for a used one.

Where are you located? Most dealers have plenty of cars in that range for a new car. But this, as others have mentioned, does seem too high. For instance, check the threads here:
http://www.elisetalk.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=94

For plenty of cars for sale much lower than that.
Good luck and welcome to the gang.

I bought a brand new '05 SB touring SS in March for $41K.

John

Your price seems very expensive IMO.

1900 miles, Ardent Red, Sport, Touring, Hard Top, Grin-Factor pkg (comes with all Elises/Exiges). $37,500 back in February. Keep looking...
and I can't even imagine an Exige into the 60's?!!?!?

Also, I've read that the air conditioning is really poor and there are other issues surrounding the first run 2005's. How can I tell if this is a first run 2005?

I have a very early '05 (#78)and it's the one of the best cars I've ever owned. No issues at all.......except for the air conditioning

Bought 06 in SF today for 43K (5K off MSRP)

I just bought a new 06 (touring+hardtop+starshield+metallic+delivery) for change over 43K (list was 48K+). I was going to buy a second hand 05 but decided to go drive a new one before I hunted around. Seems EBay is selling 05 soft-tops for 37K (I live in the Bay Area - we have rain here!) so this seems like a great deal to me. That 05 doesn't.
