'07 prices

read this today --

Lotus Cars USA Inc. says its new 220-hp Exige S will start at $56,990.

The importer also says base prices for the 190-hp Elise roadster will rise to $43,990 for ’07, up $1,000 from ’06 (not including a $995 delivery charge).

Lotus says the hike is a result of the change in the pound-dollar exchange rate and an upgrade to new headlamps needed to comply with U.S. regulations. The lightweight Exige S – it checks in at just 2,077 lbs. (942 kg) – can hit 60 mph (97 km/h) from a standstill in just 4.1 seconds and breaks the 100-mph (162-km/h) barrier in 11 seconds, Lotus says.

Top speed is 148 mph (238 km/h), while fuel economy averages 25 mpg (9.4 L/100 km) city/highway.

The Exige S is derived from the same chassis and mechanicals as the base Exige and the Elise, although in addition to the extra horsepower the car’s 1.8L engine also gets a 24% boost in torque to 165 lb.-ft. (224 Nm).

--- saw people discussing the exige s price so i thought i'd post this. If its old news sorry.

I hope they cut production waaaaaaaaay back, they can't seem to sell the 05 and 06s even at discounted prices.

Production numbers for 2007 are WAY low and I think they've finally got the hint.

Not old news, the press release was today-

Quote:
Lotus Cars USA Announces 2007 Pricing

Atlanta – October 18, 2006 – Lotus Cars USA, Inc., the exclusive distributor of the famed British exotic sports cars, today announced pricing for the 2007 model year Lotus Elise and Lotus Exige S models, for the United States.

The widely acclaimed 190 hp Elise roadster will have a Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $43,990. The increase in price of the Lotus Elise, although modest, is the result of changes of the exchange rate between the British pound and U.S. dollar and the addition of upgraded headlights designed to comply with U.S. regulations.

The new and seriously quick 220 hp Exige S will have a base MSRP of $56,990.

About the 2007 Lotus Exige S

The new Exige S is truly in Supercar Territory! Weighing just 2,077 pounds, the Exige S sprints to 60 mph in a blistering 4.1 seconds, nearly a full second faster than the already quick standard Exige and the 100mph barrier sails by in just 11 seconds. Despite its supercar-like acceleration and 148mph top speed, fuel economy is a rather un-supercar-like 25 mpg combined (est.) thanks in part to the close-ratio six-speed aluminum gearbox and Lotus T4e Engine Control System which includes variable-rpm cam switching for the first time.

The addition of an intercooled supercharger to the 1.8 liter engine has raised the horsepower 15 percent, to 220 hp from 190, and torque 19 percent, to 165 lb. ft. from 133, from the standard Exige. Perhaps more importantly with 80 percent of the peak torque available from just over 2,000rpm the engine has impressive flexibility making the car more relaxed yet instantly responsive with astonishing performance at virtually any rpm. The extra power of the Exige S, combined with the legendary handling of all Lotus cars, simply raises the Exige’s outstanding performance envelope to an entirely different level.

The Exige S shares its 150 pound extruded aluminum chassis with the standard Exige and Elise, as well as the Exige’s aerodynamic package (front end splitter, flat undercarriage, rear diffuser and rear wing) to generate nearly 100 pounds of downforce at 100mph. This downforce combined with the precise steering, outstanding suspension and grippy Yokohama Advan A048 tires give the Exige unrivaled handling capability.

To differentiate the Exige S from its more sedate sibling, the rear wing, front splitter and side air intakes are painted body color, instead of black. A single oval exhaust replaces the twin-pipe design from the naturally-aspirated Elise and Exige. A revised roof-scoop also provides cooling air to the intercooler atop the engine.

Arnie had originally planned for 1500 elise per year for 3 years. As we all know that was interrupted when he was axed and Duke took the helm (he's the quy who in a car mag interview said Lotus would be selling 10000 cars in the US in 3 years!)

BTW> Doing a web search, I found that Duke Hale is now the CEO of MG North America!!

They're saying roughly 250'ish for the S.

The 2007 Elise will also be made in low numbers compared to the 2006 models. Like I said, I think they're starting to understand that maybe by keeping the numbers low, they can keep the demand high by not having several cars sitting in dealers lots...kinda why they have yet to release the 2007 model Elise.

I realize that the '05 resale values are poor even though the '06 MSRP rose. With the MSRP rising again for '07 shouldnt some of these resale values level out? It stands to reason that if it cost more money to buy the car new than it should cost more to buy it used.
