Any word on a next generation Elise?

I'm sure this must have been discussed before, but I can't find it. Have there been any discussions, rumors, press releases, etc. regarding the next generation for the Elise? In particular, are there any good guesses on when a next generation might appear? 2011? 2013?

Yeah, they found a winning body style with the Elise, so subsequent models--Evora, Europa--have taken a number of the same cues. I will be interested to see how much the new Esprit will look like the Elise. It is amazing how this shape/styling has remained fresh over the years. I can only imagine that a future Elise will likely have some of the sharper angles along the edges of the car smoothed-out.

Yeah, after my post above I started thinking that it would be nice if Lotus made a car that with less resistance so we wouldn't be hitting that wall around 120mph.

I couldn't care less about the looks - I meant to ask if and when they plan to go to a new platform, new engine - a real next generation. While Lotus has made far more variants available within the series 1 and series 2 Elise than most manufacturers do, there are differences in the chassis between the two that signalled a noticeable break. The Evora and Europa are not really very interesting to me.

With the 2zz going buh-bye, we'll probably see something new in the powertrain are w/in the next couple of years, I imagine.

I had heard 2011, which may mean a 2012 model year?

My understanding is that an all new Elise is due in 2010 as there are plans by Abarth to use the new platform in 2011. Here is the link:

Screw what it looks like, get rid of the 2ZZ and put in a K20 already. Everyone here is drooling over 215 whp supercharger kits when people are making up to 250 whp N/A with the K20.

On the next gen power plants, seems like Toyota has been there source. Both for the Elise base and new Evora cars.

Last month I was talking to some of the TRD guys and asked them what Toyota motor would they expect Lotus to use. They said a 2AZ-FE, 2.4l, 158 hp 162 torque in standard N/A. They already have a S/C out for it and with a little tuning by Lotus would expect the numbers to go up.

Just put a deposit on a xB, that uses that motor (with a 5sp m/t). Been pretty happy with what I've seen of it so far.

Then again, Lotus has a few year to source a motor. So who knows what else maybe in the works.

i am standing by years old prediction that the 2/11 styling is the forebearer of the S3 Elise.

Any idea what this new Elise will have? More interior space, longer wheel base, more weight , etc.

Also, I won't expect another engine and IF it did it would probably be another Toyota. I think the cost to integrate and certify an engine on a low volume car make a new engine unlikely -not to mention I don't think a lot of other manufacturers were willing to sell Lotus a motor in the first place.
