Best in L.A. Auto Show -- Lotus 2-eleven

I went to the L.A. Auto Show last night. It was a pretty dull show, not as good a last year's. I can honestly say the Lotus 2-eleven track-only car was the Best In Show (defined by me as the car I would most like to own). The rest of my quick reveiw:

1st Runner-up: Nissan GT-R (this thing is a monster)

2nd Runner-up: Honda S2000 CR (they really got this one right)

Most Beautiful Car: Maserati Gran Turismo (but loses points for no manual gearbox available)

Biggest Disappointment: Lamborghini Reventon (an extra $1 million over the price of a "regular" Murcielago--for what???)

Ugliest Car: BMW 135i

Really Ugliest Car: Subaru STI (I predict Mistubishi is going to sell a lot of EVO X's).

The most macho cool man's car I have ever sat in...Aston Martin DBS.

Seats? Unbeliveable.

The gear shift knob is the size of...well.....your, uh, forearm...

211 was neat, but nowhere near best in show. I think the Spykers win that category for being completely outrageous

Quote:

Better looking in person but not great and it appears to be a really big car (so I guess you can say it is a monster)

Quote:

They had it right before, they just added some ugly bodywork to it to try and get a few more sales before they kill it

Aston Martin Vantage or DBS is more beautiful

OK, agree with you here

indifferent to it so far

I think it is pretty cool looking (in a Lancia Integrale sort of way) and it ain't bad to drive either (but perhaps too much money for it)

Nissan GT-R looks like it has a Radio Shack store for an interior.

Only thing missing is a speedometer the size of the one in the new Mini Cooper.

Aston DBS = sexiest
Lambo Reventon = also a dissappointment I dig the color but thats about it
STI and Evo = indifferent, no wow factor for me no yuck factor..time will tell
GTR = I somehow completey missed when I was there, oops, I will check it out when I go back.
S2000CR = I'm with Mopho here, YUCK!
BMW135i = MUCH like, I forsee that to be my next daily driver
Long wheel base Mini Cooper = most misproportioned
Chevy Corvette C6RS(I think that is what it was called) = very cool car, beast on the track but NOT worth the $250k price tag in the slightest.
...I will add my thoughts as I think of them.

my next daily driver might be the 135 so i definitely DIS agree with that one. BMW finally brought back the smaller car, kind of like the E30. Imagine an E30 M3 with 300+ hp turbo. its gonna be great!

Niel, i agree with you about the Aston 100%!!

I agree that the new STI is horrendous-looking! I don't know if I liked the rear spoiler on the new S2000 CR. The Spykers were very nice indeed!

The Spyker interiors are fun, but a little over the top for my taste. Beautiful bodywork.

It's funny that the BMW 1 series is supposed to be their new lightweight car, but it weighs around 3400 pounds!

The Aston Martin DBS is definitely the class act of new cars in terms of a combintioan of sleek and classic styling and mechanicals. The Nissan GT-R is a typical Carlos Ghosn cost-cutting era gimmick. First, they screwed up the smooth flow of the fastback roofline by sticking a notch at the end. Nissan blah blah blah's this away by saying that it was an added touch to remain true to the original GT-R sedan. Second, this car needs all that horsepower because it weighs nearly two tons. Third, I sold my 2003 350Z Track Model (I was a sucker who pre-ordered based on my faith in the quality of pre-Carlos Ghosn era Nissans) to buy my 2007 Lotus Elise becaus the 350Z was a problem-ridden, poor quality, overweight pig. For those of you think British cars like Lotus have issues, experience a Carlos Ghosn era Nissan. Yes, the Elise eclipses the 350Z in price (but not too by much), but I like to travel light. Sorry for the verbose post, but I hope potential GT-R buyers will PM me before they pull the trigger on another Carlos Ghosn scam.
