IIRC about 4K on a base, or roughly 10%.. but this is just a guess.
I see the 06 as worth at least 2 to 3K more in improvements: 1) better seats: 500 2) Led taillights 200 3) Better throttle response and braking feel via dbw and new pedal: 500 well thats 1/2 what Porsche charges for their Sport Chrono feature 4) choice of non metallic racing green w/o premium 600 5) LSD, track pack for autocrossing.. at least 1K vs retrofitting. Plus if one plans on flipping the car, I was surprised when I ran the #'s on identically equiped BMW Z4's with a manual transmission, 5K miles, excellent condition, the wholesale value decreases by 4K per year: 05 36K, 04 32K, 03 28K : ![]() If the Elise follows that trend ... right there is at least a 2 to 4K drop in value once the 06's show up. Bottom line, if I was an East Coast or Midwest dealer sitting on 1/2 dozen or more 05's I would move em out at close to cost with winter and the 06's coming on fast. I wouldn't want to buy an 05 and pay insurance on it whilst it sits in the garage all winter depreciating. I really wonder if all these dealers sitting on all these cars are going to carry them through the winter ![]() |

Wondering where you got those figures.. Would be nice to know that that IS invoice price... I am sure some dealers will bargain on the 05's once the 06's start to show up. Ryan |

I made them up! Seriously, I got them from a very reliable source -- the dealer invoice. FWIW -- two friends have just purchased (w/in the week) new Elises for $4100 and $4250 off sticker and the dealer still made ~$850 and ~$700 profit, respectively. There is no trunk money (factory to dealer only incentives) offered by Lotus. The car has ~10% profit at sticker prices. |

Dealer invoice $4k below MSRP makes sense. That less than 10% gross profit.
With regard to gas stations, the money really does come from the potato chips. A buddy of mine is an accountant for Frito Lay, and he knows the math very well. They make a few cents/gallon, but the primary goal is to get you to stop in front of the Pepsi display. Maybe buy a lottery ticket and some overpriced beer. Consumers are very, very price sensitive on gasoline. They will drive miles to save 3 cents a gallon. This is idiotic, but common. Once there, they aren't nearly so careful about the price of chips. Note that gas stations prominently display the price of gas, but usually not the price of snacks. |

The extra profit/costs are going somewhere, but it isn't you local gas station (they are actually making less profit).
