Sounds like you are assuming all cars in the database will be the same model year. Once we get into the 2006es the "last four" will begin to duplicate!
Might as well have the whole VIN.

I didn't say that you shouldn't have the entire VIN, I said that there is no information about options or manufacturer date (yes, the year is in there). Other cars often have information about engine size, type of transmission, etc. but the Lotus does not have that information encoded into the VIN. There isn't much information in the VIN:

I don't understand........please explain.........

I went to:

http://www.sandsmuseum.com/cars/elis...displayall.php

Where did they come up with the serial numbers?

I have a white 2006 Elise VIN number: SCCPC11126HL30413

Does that mean in 2006 I was number 413?

Please explain............

So, for digit 12 - Chassis/Body, I have an M... not listed in the chart. It is a Canadian car, anyone know if that is what M refers to?

It's the same as B but with a.c

Probably stands for LHD Canada a.c.
where B would be LHD Canada

Edit: There are some small differences between the US model and the Canadian one:
Instrument pack
Pedal box assembly

So probably it's LHD Fed. Canada a.c.
Or better yet: LHD Fed. KPH Clutch Interlock a.c.
