White costs more because it is a pearl color, like that Audi white...

Having three coats of paint can't be very good for the weight!

They are completely mad!
50% of Elise and Exige are sold in Saffron Yellow!
This color was introduced on the 99T elise in 2003 and after many requests then sold as a standard for all cars in 2004 and 2005.

I love my S.Y. car and i hold her tight!

OK, My take on this. What seems nuts on one level makes total sense on another. If you're selling more of SY than any other color and it's a no cost option, yet you're loosing money on every base spec car, what do you do? You can't up the base price again because it's already pissed off (can I say that on the boards?) too many buyers and besides, the wait lines are gone and the cars are getting msrp if that now. You can't move SY to a "metallic" because it isn't and buyers aren't going to deal with the same color but now have it be an option. So what you do is make a "new" color which is close but slightly different and charge more for it. You may loose some yellow buyers but many will just ante up the extra money to get what they want and now, suddenly, Lotus is making money on more of it's cars again. I can't blame them, noir should any of you. They need to make money on the cars otherwise they should close up the shop and just do engineering. You want to get paid fairly when you work and so do they. The fact that they have gotten "smarter" about the market can hardly be counted against them.

BTW, note all the new lifestyle colors which are also more mainstream, again to draw more buyers into a profit source for them.

For those who saw the yellow Exige at the New York Car show, that was the new yellow.

No i think that if 50% choose the S.Y. and it's not a premium color you can leave people choosing it, delete the price add on all colors and add this extra to the sales price! on all cars.
It's quite stupid to increase by 500-600$ the paint color on a car of 50.000 $! Lotus could be good to raise all and put the price at 50.500 instead to ask extra money.
Who cares about the 1% of the car's price?

If you delete saffron yellow many peolpe could not to buy the car...(i've waited the introduction of S.Y. on european gamma to buy the Elise)

I bet the phantom black has a nice pearl to it, I wonder if they used the name phantom to suggest it's close to RR's black.

I've already had one kid comment "Hey look, it's an orange one and a yellow one!" one day when I was parked next to my buddy's yellow car. I was the 'orange' one..

Also, have any of you guys noticed how at night it looks so much better? It really looks yellow at night, but in the day you can see the orange in it. Put in next to another yellow car in the daylight and it becomes "an orange one".
I've never felt that my car looks orange in person, although in some photos that I've seen it does come off with an orange hue. I love SY in bright sunlight, overcast daylight or at night. It will be interesting to see the new shade of yellow, as well as the other colors.

I hope that Polar Blue isn't as pretty as Ice Blue, or I will have some regrets about getting my car too early. Not.

This puts me behind in my goal to see all colors in person before I die.

If that is true Solar Yellow is very close to Saffron but metallic. Very nice in person.

I think the Chili Red will be an improvement over Ardent Red. Probably is closer to a Ferrari red.

However, discontinuing Saffron Yellow is a big mistake. That was just the best shade of yellow I have ever seen.

I didn't care for the yellow on the New York Auto Show Exige from the pictures I saw.

When will these cars start appearing so we can get a better look?

Lotus seems good at colors, so they will probably turn out nice.

With Saffron Yellow and a Solar Yellow paint colors, the SY abbreviation will be ambiguous. To be clear, something else will have to be used. How about SaY and SoY?

It sure will be interesting to see the BIG Elise get-togethers in a couple of years. It will be extremely colorful, like a big bag-full of Skittles...

I simply can't wait to see these new colors. I have really been anxious to buy my new car and this just takes the dreaming fun up a notch! (oh, except Autumn Gold, I was really chagrined to see that as taking up a precious color slot - why didn't they do a nice sherbet orange or something?)

If the new black is a non-metallic, I think I may go postal. I wanted a non-metallic black REALLY bad.

At least I really love the BRG I got, too.

Dreaming...

hmmmm. Sherbety orange. I agree. I have always fantasized about a multi-layered car color, (gradient), with a sherbety orange on the bottom portion of the car, then yellow then a light yellow with a slight lime tinge on the top part (fluorescence). Hard to describe. Also I would like to see rather than a pearl white, a white that has minute metalics that reflect the rainbow. I once saw this on a Roadrunner that was black, but when you looked close it reflected the rainbow. It was gorgeous! (Sigh).. I love playing with color. If I was more ambitious, I would get into designing fantastical, yet subtle, graphics on cars, if I could find a skilled sprayer person to render them.

Yup! How 'bout that.

It's too bad they're getting rid of the color and replacing it with two identical (from the PSD - I'm sure there's a difference in person) reds. It really is a beautiful, dark, rich red.

storm mod

Can anyone tell the difference between the original Storm Titanium and it's new modified one?
Is it lighter?
Darker?
I can't tell.
