Well, from now on we can't use BRG anymore since they offer that as a base color.

You and I have RG and the new metallic one probably will be RGm (modified)

It's going to be confusing

Yes, I'm a little confused by the whole thing (maybe it's 'cuz I'm dumb...).

Why not use new names for the "modified" colors? For example, let's say I love the 2005 Graphite, but for some reason don't care for the 2006 version of it. So, a used one becomes available in a few months, and my wife sees it in the paper: "2006 Graphite Grey Elise", and as a surprise (I wish!) makes an offer and gets it, knowing I like Graphite. It just has the potential to become a big mess, and could be avoided by just using a new name. Call it "#2 Pencil Grey" or something...

That point also reinforces why you can't order a replacement "graphite gray" part from the factory.

Is it difficult to reproduce these colors? What if something happens to the car and you need a part repainted in the discontinued color?

A local paint shop can reproduce the colors.

This also might explain why there were different color codes listed by Lotus for what seemed like the same named color.

NOTE-

A little bird has told me that you should not put too much stock into the colors shown on this brochure. It was hurried out to enable dealers to start to take 2006 orders and is not trying to be the definative color chip sample that will be coming later.

Nope. I would not expect to see 2006 cars in build until ~ September.

Hardtops ordered as a part come painted from the factory. I suppose that's one of those items you'll have to order by VIN?

I thought so at first, too. I'll see if I can find any of my flash shots that bring out the metallic aspect.

The colors that were "modfied" for 2006 but carry the same name are basically the same color. The difference is in the formulation in order to allow easier and more consistant painting. There is a slight difference but it's very hard to tell them apart. Yes, they will have different paint codes.

the Exige yellow looks like it has some rather large metallic flakes in it. If Lotus could produce the Lamborghini pearlescent yellow....hmmm....

That's surprising if you're right because the other lifestyle colors have a bit of metallic in them.

Wait a minute!!!

The close ups of the yellow Exige at the New York Auto Show look pretty good.

I may have to retract my statement.

I finally decided on Chrome Orange over Saffron Yellow, because I liked the metallic flake to it, but it looks like the color debate will start all over again.

I was wondering what a Saffron Yellow would look like it it had the metallic to it. Now I know.

Decisions, Decisions!
