Curious if GM susidized some of the price for the VX200 in order to have a "halo car" for the Vauxhall line.

Where are you getting the VX-220T prices from that indicate it is half the price of an Elise?

For comparison, the Europa S is, basically, a re-bodied VX-220T and it certainly isn't half the cost of an Elise, though Lotus is pricing it, not GM. It is fairly more expensive than the Elise.

My bad. I got the price from the non-turbo 220.

I think it will hurt because the price now puts it in a catagory of alot of other cars to choose from. This car for the type of customers you are talking about arent really going to appreciate the go kart feeling...most people are not that impressed with the interior and the noisy ride. It's really not a great social climber car. Only enthusiast who dont really care what other think are going to be happy with this toy. This was the reason why so many people dumped their Elise way back. They thought it would be cool until they had to live with it and then returned to thier high dollar Porches etc. It's just dosent feel like a 60-70K car.

Not the top of the line Exige or Exige S optioned...but even so 50K is lot for such a limited use toy for most. One of the appealing things about this car was it was a poor man's exotic. If it continues to go up it will loose most of it's base customer. Yeah it will pick up a few peeps looking to own a higher dollar car but I dont think it will offset whats lost.

Let us not forget that the head honcho at Lotus
did say in the March issue of Sports Car Int'l.
Magazine that the base price of an Elise will be
$50K by the time the 65K car comes out at the
end of '08'. If the U.S. Dollar keeps going the
wrong way against the Brits currency, that 50K
might even be higher in two years.
